x670e-plus - last bios build problem 1809

Codeset
Level 8

Hi everyone, here's my problem with this card that's sticking out of my eyes. I've had nothing but problems since I bought it.

I had a first DDR5 16x2 Gskill 6400 kit when it came out that was not recognised and that I had to tweak in terms of timings for it to work at 5800 / 1900.

I changed last month for a dominator platinum RGB 64GB 2x32 6600 kit...

The best I could get out of it and for it to boot and be stable was with the 1616 bios. That is 5800mhz / 2066 with Buildzoid's timings.

Today I tried the latest Agesa 1.0.0.8, i.e. build firmware 1809. Obviously, it's still the same mess, only worse. The PC is even more unstable. The ram can't cope with anything above 5400/1900. Another upgrade for nothing.

EXCEPT... That I tried to downgrade (and by enabling the DOWNGRADE option in the bios). No matter which version I try to flash, I get a corrupted file and can't flash it again. I'm stuck in 1809...

I'm going on 45 and I started with the good old 286... I've seen a lot of ASUS motherboards come and go. If you don't tap into the Crosshair / Formula range any more, you only end up with problems in the mid-range. It's becoming catastrophic. Whether it's AM4/AM5, 1700...

My last purchase was an ASUS. I've never had a problem with MSI, I'm going back to them.

What do we do now Mr ASUS with our bios lock in 1809? We make an RMA on all our cards to have a bios with an older build version ?? Ridiculous.

Got this card with 7xxx gen and now  7950X, i never can exploit them.

Hi there,

If you take a lok at the memory QVL for the x670e-plus there are no qualified kits in this density above 6000MT, which is quite telling. This is because this particular IC does not favour AM5 very well in terms of raw frequency compared to kits binned with Hynix M-die 24GB.

This is why it pays greatly to pay attention to the QVL to establish what is and what isn't possible on a particular platform, and to ensure the best possible chance of success when overclocking. It's also worth noting that the best performance is still found when the memory is ran 1:1 with the FCLK (Infinity Fabric Clock). Between 6000 and 6200 is fairly typical depending on the strength of the IF).
Hope this helps. 👍

Nice, gonna test this datas for my kit.
Thanks.

I've just retried to downgrade but always "bios file invalid".

What are you trying to do, exactly?

The QVL is a list of validated kits for your motherboard. The timings and voltages are not there to be referenced against on other kits, it’s there to show you which kits have been tested by ASUS.

To got my kit running at the right speed. Or at min. 5800/2000. That's impossible.
EXPO 1 => Failed
Manual timings 40-40-40-77 with 1.35-1.4v don't works.

It's only running at 5400 / 1900 with the last bios build.
And 5800 with the 1616 version.

I have exactly the same kit with the same Hynix chips (as ASUS compatible table) except that it uses 6600 instead of 6000. The timings / voltages of the 6000 should be larger. Which is not the case. Same problem with my old Gskill kit.

if it’s not the same kit, it’s not been validated.  There is no way of knowing what voltage and timings would be needed for it to run at 6000MT without manual tuning (this may include sub timings). Looking at Corsair’s site you can see this kit was originally intended for Intel platforms, this means the guardband used by the vendor is often not directly transferable onto other platforms.

The lower the frequency, the tighter the timings and oftenlower the voltage will be from the memory vendor. You will need to evaluate all these things, or purchase a kit that is present on the QVL for your motherboard. Remember that 6600MT will require a reasonable IMC.

If you want to downgrade.

Download the bios version you want, unpack.

Dont use the bios renamer.

Rename the bios to TX670ELW and try the usb flashback in the back of the mobo.

Nop,

If you do that after the 1809 upgrade. Downgrade is over.
All old bios bin are considered "invalid bios file".

It Will work if you do the biosflashback button method.

See video link:

Important to rename the bios file manualy, dont use the bios renamer in step 3 in the video.

I reverted from bios v1813 to v1618 this way.

Since v1636 that this board was shipped with, failed to recognise lan, wifi and some pcie ports from cold boot.(all bios versioner after 1636 did that)

I've wasted 3 weeks finding the solution going back to a previous version 1618, that Just works.

I have just tried the timings given by the asus table for my kit  :
"Manual" => 40-40-40-77
6000/2000, 5800/1900, 5600/1900, 5400/1900. 1.35v, power gear deactivated, all smics at 1.35.

6000, 5800 do not start.

When I can boot with the 5400 frequency, I get an instant reboot when I run a testmem..
