x670E Hero, PD_12V_PWR , and RTX 4090

Working on a new build with x670e hero.

Manual shows an 8 pin pcie connection for
"The PD_12V_PWR connector provides additional power for your PCIe X16 slots. To
support 60W, please install the power cable to the 6-pin PCIe Graphics Card connector
(PD_12V_PWR) else only 27W will be supported."

Also have a RTX 4090 which requires 4 PCI-E cables.

Also have a Rog Strix 1000w Power supply which came with 3 PCIe cables, each with a splitter at the end.

Is it safe to use two cables to 4090 (both using splitters) and the other cable to the PD_12V_PWR on the board?

There is a lot of talk on the internet about 2 cables not enough, and causing melting.

Or should I just return PSU and get a new ATX 3.0 one with the new cable?

Hello,

Use the supplied cables and ensure all 4 8-pin connectors are inserted. Ensure the 12VHPWR power connector on the 4090 is fully inserted.

Use an independent 6 pin to power the PD_12V_PWR on the motherboard.

Thanks for the reply - I ended up ordering a new 1000W Asus Rog Thor PSU which has supports the new ATX cable. Sadly, it came with the old 12 pin cable which wont work. 😞 How do I contact Asus Customer Support to send the correct cable - will they send the correct one?
