Whenever an Expo profile is enabled, I see instability when resuming from sleep, where once every few resumes, the PC will end up rebooting instead of resuming from sleep. The system does not seem to have much instability outside of the resume from sleep scenario.
My configuration is as follows:
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR
CPU: 7950X3D
GPU: 4090
BIOS Version 1516 (though this issue has occurred in every past version as well)
BIOS Setting:
EXPO I (EXPO Tweaked and EXPO II both display the same behavior, although EXPO II in particular seems unstable even outside of sleep issues)
PBO Enabled (Curve Optimizer with offset negative 25 for all cores)
My understanding is F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR is one of the most recommended memory kits out there, so I am struggling to understand why I can't get EXPO working while maintaining the ability to put reliably wake my system from sleep.
When EXPO is disabled, the issue disappears entirely.

There was a reddit thread where the specific random crash with wake from sleep was found to be VSOC related (lower stopping it). OP can choose three options:
1.. Run stock memory
2. Run OC memory and use sleep. Requires VSOC <1.2 but will have lose of memory write speeds after wake
3. Run OC memory and never use sleep but hibernate instead. NO crash and no loss of memory write speeds.

I had same issue and solved by dropping VSOC (to 1.15 from 1.25V; Asus defaults to 1.25 at 6000 with manual timings but no idea what Expo would give). Note Asus has a bug where the memory write speed will drop down to JDEC5200 when you resume from sleep with OC above 5200 (requires reboot to restore). You should use hibernate to solve both issues (adds 10 seconds to boot time). make sure MCR is ON.

Will try using Hibernate and report back. It’s disappointing that these bugs are still around so many months and after multiple new versions of the bios!

I tried using hibernate and the PC also rebooted upon resume from sleep.
Can someone point me to a resource on how to manually change memory settings to get to 6000 since this isn’t an area I am familiar with and was hoping to not have to spend time on since EXPO is meant to be specifically so that users don’t have to go through the trouble of doing things manually.
if this can be caused by a lower quality / binned set of memory sticks, I’d rather replace them than spend the time manually tweaking.
If the PBO negative curve offset is a possible cause, I can turn that off.
Quite maddening that this is still the state of affairs for getting advertised EXPO memory speeds on top-end hardware.

Do not use sleep at all. Turn off any auto sleep (ie i in power settings, sleep=never) and force the PC to hibernate when you are done.
For memory search youtube for Buildzoid and follow his guide for Hynix or Samsung but expo vs manual is not why it crashes on waking from sleep. Sleep is broken and can't be used. Trust me, I tried for months to solve. Also, Follow Buildzoid and set VSOC to 1.2 or below.

Hello,
S3 Resume issues are normally due to the memory being unstable. The best thing to do would be to test OS stability with an app such as Karhu RAM Test and assess stability this way. Timing-wise, it’s normally tREFI being the culprit, however, at the memory vendors EXPO profile the best method would be to tune VSOC or try EXPOII which often will have more relaxed secondary timings.

All of those, including those in any thread equate to an unstable overclock. The system should be able to awake from sleep otherwise.
VSOC is CPU specific, some CPU may need more hence why the auto rules are what they are.
EXPO ii May help with this due to the relaxed timings.

Thanks, all, for the input! Dialing down VSOC to just under 1.20V resolved the wake from sleep crashes I was seeing. I applied Buildzoid's timings per this video, and it continues to be stable:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlYxmRcdLVw
I tried switching to hibernate instead of sleep and it seemed to add 1-2 minutes to each resume, instead of 10s that was suggested earlier. I know there might be the hit to write speeds due to the bug mentioned, but hopefully that will get fixed soon by Asus.

To avoid the long boots, you need to enable "memory context restore" (under memory timings sub menu). Buildzoid says not to but he does extreme OC settings. For normal OC <6400, MCR should work on most kits. Works fine for me (it retrains automatically once every 2-3 weeks)
