X670E-F bios 2604 Agesa 1.2.0.2b post issue after EXPO enabled

please check reply on this post,

turns out the issue is not related to usb dungle but AMD Expo enabled,

original post:

hello all,

i just recently completely upgraded my build ryzen 7 9800X3D with rog x670e-f gaming wifi motherboard,

i did bios flash using usb before putting cpu (bios version 2604), after that all is running well and smooth. then i go to bios and enable EXPO 1. doing all sort of benchmark and seems stable, at that. time im using logitech peeble2 mouse

the problem occured after hours later, i plugged my razer v2x hyperspeed wireless usb dongle to the back of io motherboard.

the pc wont post, first is ram light which is yellow, then around 15-30 seconds later stuck at red cpu light for so long, ive waited for more than 30mins and i knew something is wrong...

then i decided to unplug all my usb from back io including that razer one, switch off the pc, unplug from wall, plug back in, and start the pc, its still stuck at red light cpu, keep repeating for 2-3 times, same result, stuck at cpu light

then i did cmos clear process and start the pc again, and it boot completely normal,

then i plugged the razer dongle but this time without turning on the expo, its still running fine. switch on and off several times, also tried plug and unplug from wall, the pc just boot fine...

and my pc will stuck at red cpu light if i plug razer + enable amd expo, tried both expo 1 and expo 2, both are failed to post... clear cmos is the only way to make it post.

i have another system at home which is ddr4 with ryzen 5 5600x with motherboard gigabyte b550 aorus pro ac, my razer dongle is just fine there, not causing boot issue.

my suspect is the that razer mouse have some kind of lighting features in the usb to control the mouse rgb and something there causing the system failed to post.

i hope asus can help to look at it, when i read the forum i see so many post bios issue with ryzen 7 9800x3d, maybe its related to my issue, maybe some user are unaware their wireless peripherals are causing post boot issue...

here is my complete setup:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Black

Motherboard: ROG X670e-f gaming wifi

RAM: Gskill trident neo 32x2 6000mhz cl32 EXPO

ssd/hdd: adata xpg sx8200 PRO 1TB (W11 OS), lexar nm790 4TB (data),  hdd seagate barracuda 2tb (data)

BIOS version: 2604 Agesa 1.2.0.2b

i think i found a stable setting for my post issue related to enabling expo profile.

in the AI tweaker, leave everything auto, dont select any expo profile, leave it auto.

just set ram speed to 6000 and set fclk to 2000

go to dram timing setting in AI tweaker, and select top menu its called "memory preset"

i choose hynix dual rank 32x2 6400 setup, then just click ok,

in the same page set div1 mode to "uclk=mclk"

try it with several reboot to see if it can post after memory training. if its not stable, try to choose another preset.

i tried like 10 times cold reboot, every reboot will redo memory training because memory context default is disable.

another minor tweak i did is bump down vddp to 0.95 because vddp from the memory preset is too high 1.15,

my post is stable for now. i will continue to stress test again...

dear asus if you are reading this, please fix your expo profile soon, expo rated kit should make user life easier, not everyone have time to down to rabbit hole to tweak ram timing and voltages just to make sure their ram is not faulty... i cant imagine how many people are RMA ing ram or even your board due to your faulty expo profile.

and please please do more test with your new bios expecially with your expo profile and ram timing... tons of customer including me are suffering now from your incompetent.

and for god sake, check again your "validated" ram QVL motherboard list, make sure every ram kit there is working in your new bios... post stability, stress test stability, any other test, do it properly before releasing new bios... 😭😭😭

update for today:

after reseating almost everything, recheck again the cpu and socket,

pretty sure fail post is related to EXPO enabled, try without expo my pc is running fine. no issue.

if i enable expo 1 or 2, first boot will running fine but later my pc will stuck at red cpu light for eternity after turned off for hours.

spent entire weekend trying to figure out how i can overcome this issue,

i think i found a stable setting for my pc for bios : 2604 Agesa 1.2.0.2b

1. enable expo from ai tweaker

2. choose expo 1

3. set FLCK to 2000

4. memory context restore=enable

5. power down enable= disable

6. fast boot=disable

7. "UCLK DIV1 MODE" = "uclk=memclk"

i will continue to monitor my pc, for today looks like stable and no issue so far after applying those setting.

expo 6000mhz is not stable with my setup, either cpu red light at post or successful post but later will stuck again at next reboot post.

downclock to 5800mhz for now

Try using BIOS version 2506. BIOS 2604 has problems with RAM training.

thanks bro i already tried previous version too, its worse, maybe my cpu is new ryzen 7 9800x3d and the bios still not stable for expo.

update 1 week after:

i still have issue with any expo enabled in bios 2604 or 2506, either its 6000-5800-5600, all will not have a stable post. im done with expo,

its already taking me so much time troubleshoot every possible scenario,

even reinstall windows multiple times to check if armoury crate is causing unstable post.

when i got a success expo post, every benchmark works perfectly, no error i can game just fine without any stutter.

but every 2-3 hours i switch off or restart my pc, it will stuck at red cpu light.

im testing my rig now using default bios with expo disabled, i will continue to monitor my rig
