X670 Gaming E-E just started error: USB Device Over Current Status Detected

Hoping to find some help from the community here.  I built my computer in Jan 2024 with the X670 motherboard and have been using with no issues since that time.  However, today upon doing a random restart, the computer entered a BIOS screen with the error “USB Device Over Current Status Detected“.  I’ve searched the forums here and online and have gone through every resolution available, down to unplugging everything on the motherboard and power supply other than RAM and CPU and basically fully rebuilding, resetting CMOS etc and the error persists.  I’m unsure what caused the error to begin with as no new hardware was changed or installed.  Now I’m stuck at that error with no real idea what to do next.

Any thoughts from support or the community on this one?  Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you tried removing the mobo from your PC case and testing it? Maybe a short or a bad pc case connector. Are you using the same keyboard and mouse to test? If so, maybe one of them is the problem?

EDIT: I seldom post without an edit.

Thanks for the reply.  I did end up taking the entire motherboard out of the PC case just to see if it would help but still posted with the error.  I did not try another keyboard or mouse, however I did try those on a laptop to verify they were working normally.

I had similar happen this week to my X670E ProArt. It would report over current USB even with nothing plugged into USB ports or USB headers. Then one attempted boot, it was just completely dead to the world. No LEDs, nothing. I swapped PSUs, reset CMOS, performed a BIOS flash back, and then finally it just happened to power on when I was shorting the power switch pins one time. I then had to remove all memory and then add a stick at a time to get it to successfully POST. Now it's working perfect, except, it won't necessarily boot when I hit the power button or short the pins. I have to sit there with power button held or shorting the pins for up to 60 seconds before it suddenly decides to power on. I have no idea why, and I'm pretty sure it's not the power button. Let me tell you, it makes me never want to turn my machine off!
I don't have any answers to your problem, but perhaps something in my story will help?
