Turnin "USB power delivery in Soft Off state (S5)" off from bios results in some usb ports not working in Windows 11. There is an error "The USB hub failed to reset"

Here is the error and picture of one USB port that I tested the most. No matter if the device was keyboard, mouse, UPS etc. After cold start the port would simply not work. Unfortunately I don't remember the other ports nor do I have time (taking care of my kids) to retest them at the moment.

Motherboard: ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO

Thanks for confirming. For replication purposes what was the last UEFI version you used where you didn’t have this occur?

Last bios that did not have this usb port issue was ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO BIOS 1415. I have tried many versions befor 1415 that worked also just fine considering usb ports and setting "USB power delivery in Soft Off state (S5)" off.

Thanks for confirming. Currently looking into this.

In the first picture, everything works normally.  In the second picture, the  issue appears, after I shut down the PC and then  turn it on, as you can see  all parts with a wired connection will be lost:

- In the Armoury Crate devices like AIO (ROG RYUJIN II 360), ROG  keyboard, and ARGB Header are not showing, but the wireless adapter for the ROG keyboard is there.

- In Corsair all parts are not showing.

- In Razer app the wired keyboard is not showing but the wireless mouse with the adapter is there.

The RAM is working fine with EXPO on.

I did the test with:

In BIOS RAM EXPO is on and off

In BIOS RAM MCR enabled and disabled

In BIOS Fast boot on and off

Also, I tested with the steps you mentioned, all tests had the same result.

I found out that one setting in the BIOS will make a difference which is:

USB power delivery in soft off state (s5), if it is disabled I will have the same issue but if it's enabled everything will work fine.

So I think the issue with this option USB power delivery in soft off state (s5).

The last bios which worked fine without this USB problem was 1415 (Asus x670e Hero).  I skipped bios 1516 so don't know if that had any issues.

I also have the same issues on ASUS ProArt X670E-Creator WiFi . When [USB power delivery in Soft Off State (S5)] is disabled:

- Bluetooth controller is not present after first boot (after restart is will appear)
- UBS keyboard is not present
- My USB Audio interface will not boot
- I get error in Windows "The USB hub failed to reset"

Windows 11 Build Version 10.0.22621.2215
BIOS 1602 (But the issue was also present 1516; As far as I can tell it was not present in 1415; I am not sure about 1502)

After enabling USB power delivery in Soft Off State (S5) everything is functioning correctly.

Regards

Thanks.

This issue has been replicated, so watch this space for an update.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue. Finally I decided to change the "USB power delivery in Soft Off State (S5)" to Enable to get USB hub working again.

In order to add more info (in case you could consider it usefull), the fist cold boot (without unplugging the power cable) it was the Motherboard who does not detect the USB. The windows error (43) in this case is because the Motherboard does not detect it first and it is not able to recover it.

As the people says, if you reboot, the USB is already detected by the Motherboard.

Regards,

   Manuel.

It would be a good idea to change the thread title to specifically says is USB issues (not detected under windows 11) on X670E BIOS (several versions affected).

The issue for me with S5 USB power delivery activated is that my keyboard does not go into stand by mode, so battery is quickly depleted when PC is OFF (S5 state).
