Unable to run RAM at EXPO without crashes

CPU/GPU: 8700g

Motherboard: Asus PRIME B650M-R

RAM: 32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 6000mHz

PSU: Corsair CX650W

Whenever I run with EXPO on the computer freezes/restarts with no bluescreen within 20 minutes to a few hours of bootup (and in fact almost always has happened by the time I return if I leave the PC and come back to it later). I turned EXPO off (pretty much the only thing I was prepared to try) and the system runs fine but the RAM is running at 4800 and not the 6000mHz that was advertised

It's important to note that I've very new to PC building and this is the very first PC I've ever built from scratch (and may end up being the last)

I have updated all my drivers and have tried each of the options under the EXPO menu in the AI tweaker (I, II, Tweaked) and they all have the same problems

These are the 2X16 6000MT kits present on the memory QVL for the PRIME B650M-R. As this is an entry-level board, validated memory kits are fairly sparse. I'd recommend opting for one present here for the best possible chance of success without the need for manual tuning.

Hi @Rk8ley

Are you able to state which memory kit part number?  The memory overclock is unstable. It doesn't appear that there are any Corsair kits in that density and speed on the motherboard's memory QVL.

I assume you mean what's on the barcode on the back of the box the momory came in?

In that case it's CMK32GX5M2E6000Z36

I chose the memory based on what PC Part Picker said was the cheapest 6000 RAM with the compatibility filter on

Thank you for this. I guess the so called "compatibility filter" on PCPartPicker is no good then. I'll look into buying some RAM off that list but do you know how and could you please tell me howI could tune the existing RAM to work as you seem to imply that that's a possibility?

There's no assurances with overclocking, unfortunately. The vendor QVL simply ensures you get the best possible chance of success - if you can return the kit for one present on the QVL, I would do so 👍

I exchanged the RAM kit for the cheapest one from the list (which just so happened to also be a Corsair Vengeance kit) and it has worked perfectly for a couple days so I'll call this solved, thank you for your help, I'll certainly check motherboard compatibility for RAM from now on instead of just trusting PCPartPicker

No problem, glad you were able to find stability 👍
