red cpu light on fresh build strix x670e-f gaming wifi

band new build.  amd ryzen 9 7950x.  never posts - just sits at the red cpu light.  I read a lot of posts on reddit about just waiting 5+ minutes and it will go away.  So far, no luck.

I took out the graphics card and only 1 stick of memory in A2.  using the onboard hdmi and nothing ever displays on the screen.

I downloaded the latest bios on a usb drive, did the renaming, put the usb drive in the flashback and pressed the button.  greenlight flashed for a while then it stopped.  I took that to mean it was done.  hit the reset cmos button while I was at it.

What else should I try?

Hi,

Inspect the CPU slot for any bent pin and/or try with other CPU if you have the chance. If this clears out you may have a defective CPU in your hands.

Other stuff you can try:

Take the board battery out for 5-10 minutes, re-do the cabling, all the cabling, be sure to connect everything again. Use the 2 cpu aux cables. Lastly, dont put much pressure on the cooler, just for troubleshooting.

thanks for the suggestions, but all yielded nothing positive.

now it's stuck at the DRAM light being on only forever.
