RAM Choice on X670E Hero

So like many others, since i built this system, i have no end of issues, some of them point towards RAM, not so much faulty, but just not compatible.

On all BIOS prior to 0705, i get random crashes like the reset switch has been hit, no BSOD, no Error, No warning just a reset like i have hit the switch.

On BIOS 0705, my system is fairly rock solid, but my CPU is limited to a max boost of 5.5Ghz - the latest on this is it is connected to c-states and boost limits in the Agesa Version, the only workaround currently seems to be use an early version of the BIOS

So, I am currently running with 32Gb of Dominator Platinum 6000 (XMP not EXPO) but i am starting to winder if i might be better of with a different set of sticks. The sticks i have aren't currently listed on the QVL list and i am wondering would it be better to get a pair of stick that are on the QVL list, or get sticks that aren't on the QVL list but are EXPO.

The third option would be to just run the current RAM at stock speeds on the earlier BIOS and hope that prevents the resets, but i am fairly sure i have already tried it and it didn't work.

I'm using Dominator Platinum with EXPO and still having all of those issues, including the random resets on 0705. I couldn't even get into Windows on earlier BIOs versions, constantly blue-screened. I think the BIOs just need a bunch of bug-fixing and performance improvements.

Yeah, thats what i am hoping.

Have you tried any of the Test versions of the BIOS, available here:

I haven't no. Unfortunately, I need my PC for work so not tested any of the beta or test bios.

I've read some of your other posts on the forum and it seems like while your system is stable with memory at the default SPD speeds, enabling DOCP and having the memory clock to 6000 MT/s causes your problems.

I had the same thing. I think you'd benefit from setting UCLK mode as I outline here: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?130981-New-build-freezes-or-BSODs/page2#post876364

Doing that made my system stable at 6000 MT/s. I can't get it stable at 6200 MT/s despite trying the voltages suggested in Shamino's guide or the settings reported to work by nyxagamemnon (on unknown sticks of memory). However, since your sticks are only rated to 6000 MT/s, I think you'll probably be fine with just UCLK enabled.

I tested with Corsair CMT32GX5M2X6600C32 (for the 6000 MT/s). You'll note that's XMP and not EXPO either, and not on the QVL.

I just got some G.Skill F5-6000J3040G32GA2-TZ5RK to try at 6000 MT/s (also XMP, but they do sell an EXPO version but that's out of stock right now). So far so good (with the UCLK=MEMCLK setting) but the memory test won't be finished for a few more hours.

Ok, well i have just changed that setting after doing a restart from windows and the good news is it has allowed me back into windows with memory speed set at DOCP, now this has happened before so i am not assuming the memory issues on some BIOS are sorted (currently on 0803) but its definately a good sign and more testing will be required.

if this does turn out to be sorted and i can somehow get the boosting issues fixed, i will be absolutely golden 🙂

No problem, anything in particular you want me to do or set?

I have just put on this BIOS and as expected, i set DOCP and i didnt quite make it to windows before i got a blue screen warning of MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

I have set UCLK = MEMCLK as i did previously on the test BIOS 0803 and everything seems to be stable for the moment, I did note that this options was on the extreme tweaker tab as well as the other tab.

@Shamino

Unfortunately, this BIOS and all the other test BIOS i have tried so far (0801, 0802 & 0803) all make my system unstable, even after i have set the parameter for UCLK = MEMCLK.

I did Initially think my system was stable after setting this parameter, but after switching on this morning from cold, i got a bluescreen on windows loading with a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error. Therefore i have had to revert to 0705 which seems to be the only stable BIOS for me currently, but the problem with it is the limitation of 5.5Ghz when boosting.

Global C-States Control is enabled.
