RAM Choice on X670E Hero

So like many others, since i built this system, i have no end of issues, some of them point towards RAM, not so much faulty, but just not compatible.

On all BIOS prior to 0705, i get random crashes like the reset switch has been hit, no BSOD, no Error, No warning just a reset like i have hit the switch.

On BIOS 0705, my system is fairly rock solid, but my CPU is limited to a max boost of 5.5Ghz - the latest on this is it is connected to c-states and boost limits in the Agesa Version, the only workaround currently seems to be use an early version of the BIOS

So, I am currently running with 32Gb of Dominator Platinum 6000 (XMP not EXPO) but i am starting to winder if i might be better of with a different set of sticks. The sticks i have aren't currently listed on the QVL list and i am wondering would it be better to get a pair of stick that are on the QVL list, or get sticks that aren't on the QVL list but are EXPO.

The third option would be to just run the current RAM at stock speeds on the earlier BIOS and hope that prevents the resets, but i am fairly sure i have already tried it and it didn't work.

I've read some of your other posts on the forum and it seems like while your system is stable with memory at the default SPD speeds, enabling DOCP and having the memory clock to 6000 MT/s causes your problems.

I had the same thing. I think you'd benefit from setting UCLK mode as I outline here: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?130981-New-build-freezes-or-BSODs/page2#post876364

Doing that made my system stable at 6000 MT/s. I can't get it stable at 6200 MT/s despite trying the voltages suggested in Shamino's guide or the settings reported to work by nyxagamemnon (on unknown sticks of memory). However, since your sticks are only rated to 6000 MT/s, I think you'll probably be fine with just UCLK enabled.

I tested with Corsair CMT32GX5M2X6600C32 (for the 6000 MT/s). You'll note that's XMP and not EXPO either, and not on the QVL.

I just got some G.Skill F5-6000J3040G32GA2-TZ5RK to try at 6000 MT/s (also XMP, but they do sell an EXPO version but that's out of stock right now). So far so good (with the UCLK=MEMCLK setting) but the memory test won't be finished for a few more hours.

I have just realised something and perhaps i have been too busy trying to think of solutions to see what you are saying here. Do you think if i went back to 0611 BIOS but set UCLK=MEMCLK, i might well get the both of both worlds and get the 5.7+ boosting behaviour back?

If this is the case, then i am sorry i was so slow on the uptake, lol

Im using GSKILL DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL32 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit F5-6000J3238F16GX2-TZ5NR, no memory issues at all.

IT is EXPO memory, I wonder if the XMP memory is the issue? Corsair makes great memory from my experience, but maybe official EXPO memory would solve your issues?

Well thats the $64,000 question, because EXPO memory might be better but RAM from the QVL list that maybe isn't EXPO might be even better as it has been tested.

I would guess that EXPO has more accurate memory timings mapped for AMD CPUs? Or maybe I just got lucky, can't really say. If X670 is training upon first boot - whcih mine does, takes almost 2 minutes if I update BIOS - seems EXPO or XMP would not matter much - only AMD and/or ASUS can really answer this.

Main reason I pick QVL memory, is if there are issues no one can blamie mismatched parts if I want to return something. 🙂 In this case, I came from a Ryzen 5950X and had no DDR5 Memory sticks - easy decision.

My hypothesis is that EXPO makes the motherboard automatically set UCLK=MEMCLK, but DOCP does not. If you go into Ryzen Master with your EXPO memory, does it says UCLK Mode is On?Â*

on my x670e-I ITX board I'm using 64gb (2x 32) Ripjaw S5's: F5-6000J3238G32GX2-RS5K. They were just released this month.

They are rock solid so far, they are technically XMP and not EXPO, but it doesnt matter, they're performing without issue. I was very worried trying to force 2x32gb high performance memory on this board, but its been 1000% rock solid.

They are also way better looking than the Trident line.
