I just have to let the topic come up here because the question is currently being asked everywhere in many forums because of the new X870E and even editors don't know exactly what the old X670E boards have for USB4, especially because of Computex:
Do the X670E boards really have USB4 with 40Gbps?
Since ASUS advertises this:TWO USB4® TYPE-C® PORTS
Each USB4® port delivers up to 40 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth for the latest super-speed devices and drives. External display support reaches up to 8K output if one of the ports is in use, or both can be employed for dual 4K displays.
Unfortunately, you get contradictory statements about this. Nobody knows anything 100% of the time.
It would be nice to get an official statement from ASUS here.

Hello, @lordberti
May I ask where you came across the discussion on the topic of the USB transfer speed of the X670E motherboard?
Could you please provide the complete link, video, or source of information for us to further verify the conflicting specifications you mentioned?
Thank you.

For examples here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/15jp93l/asus_proart_x670e_with_intel_jhl8540_tb4_egpu/
I myself took a look at my board and according to AIDA64 only PCIe 1.0 with 4 lanes is used the jhl8540, which couldn't be true for USB4 with 40 Gbps.
In addition, there is only 2 to choose from in the BIOS for Thunderbolt security level. "No security" or "USB4 only". But if Thunderbolt is actually supported, there should be more to choose from here, such as: "User Authentication"
It would be really helpful to find out what these two USB4 ports can really do and what they can't?

Hello, @lordberti
Due to the ongoing local holidays in our area, my response time may experience delays.
I apologize for any inconvenience the delayed replies may have caused.
Regarding the links you provided, as I am not familiar with German, could you explain the specific concerns about the "new X870E" and "X670E" series motherboards with USB4 specifications?
Kindly prioritize official specifications and information and provide conflicting explanations, if any.
For the specifications of the TWO USB4® TYPE-C® PORTS, could you provide a screenshot from AIDA64 showing "PCIe 1.0 with 4 lanes" or connect a 40Gbps device and share a screenshot of the test results?
Thank you.

It's just a matter of there being no real information about what the two USB4 ports can really do. Intel has also removed the jhl8540 controller from their site:
And i have no problems.

Hello, @lordberti
After verification, no anomalies were found, and the tested speed meets the specifications.
Based on this, we recommend checking the upload and download speeds for any irregularities and cross-testing with other third-party software for comparison.
Regarding the Thunderbolt security level, we are still expecting confirmation, and I will update the comment as soon as we receive any.
Thank you in advance for your patience.

Hello, @lordberti
According to the relevant department, ThunderBolt 4 operates at two levels, and "No Security" simply allows users to connect devices without needing to approve them.
And we further confirmed that, as long as the connected devices are secure, there won't be any security issues.
Thank you.
