No POST, Orange Q-LED — Asus ProArt X670E / Ryzen 9 7950X

Hi all,

My system has been running stable for about two years, but I ran into a problem today. I connected an external SSD to transfer a large batch of video data overnight.

This morning, the system wouldn’t wake up. After restarting, there’s no POST screen, and the Q-LED stays solid orange.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Tested both RAM sticks individually and in all slots — no change
  • Flashed to the latest BIOS version
  • Cleared CMOS and left system powered off for several minutes

System specs:

  • OS: Windows 10 Pro
  • Motherboard: Asus ProArt X670E Creator WiFi 6
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
  • RAM: G.Skill DDR5-6400 96 GB (F5-6400J3239F48GX2-TZ5RS)
  • GPU: RTX 4090
  • PSU: Be Quiet! Straight Power 12 1000 W 80+ Platinum

From what I understand, the orange Q-LED indicates a DRAM issue, but since testing each stick and updating the BIOS didn’t help, I’m not sure what’s next.

Has anyone seen similar behavior on this board or with DDR5 kits like mine? Any suggestions on how to further isolate the fault?

Thanks!

Hi @r0cky_dread

You're correct in that the orange light is the DRAM QLED. However, it can also indicate an issue with the CPU.

Leave one memory module in slot A2.

You may want to remove the CPU and cooler. Inspect the CPU-pin-pad and socket for any debris or damage, then remount.

Once done, make sure you give the system sufficient time to complete POST. Initial DRAM training following a Clear CMOS can take upward of 10 minutes, depending on the DRAM configuration.
