Issue with ASUS ProArt B650-Creator and Ryzen 9 9950X: On-board GPU Connectors Not Fully Functional

Setup:

  • Motherboard: ASUS ProArt B650-Creator (BIOS 2401)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
  • RAM: TeamGroup T-Create Expert 2x48GB DDR5-6800 (@5600MHz)
  • Storage: 2x WD SN850X 4TB NVMe SSDs
  • Display Cable: USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 (1 & 2)
  • Monitor: LG UltraGear 27GP850P-B

Issue:

  • Pre-Boot: No display output from HDMI or DisplayPort over USB-C; white Q-LED (VGA indicator) is on.
  • Post-Boot:
    • HDMI: Becomes functional with the 9950X.
    • DisplayPort over USB-C: Remains non-functional.

Troubleshooting Done:

  • CPU Swap: Replacing the Ryzen 9 9950X with a Ryzen 7 7700:
    • Result: HDMI works pre-boot; DisplayPort over USB-C still doesn't work.
  • Motherboard Swap: Using an ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-I GAMING WIFI with both CPUs:
    • Result: Both HDMI and DisplayPort over USB-C work pre- and post-boot.

Conclusion:

  • The issue seems specific to the combination of the ASUS ProArt B650-Creator motherboard and the Ryzen 9 9950X CPU.
  • DisplayPort over USB-C is non-functional in all tested scenarios on the ProArt board.
  • HDMI port on the ProArt board doesn't work pre-boot with the 9950X but does with the 7700.

Looking For:

  • Advice on resolving the on-board GPU connector issues with this setup. (Firmware update?)
  • Has anyone experienced similar problems or have suggestions?

The motherboard does not have a built-in DisplayPort; it only allows DisplayPort passthrough from a dedicated GPU.

Since I need DisplayPort I will buy another mainboard.

Your display port on your MB is not fonctionnal with the iGPU of your 9950x processor (init iGPU first) ?

The USB-C DisplayPort on the ASUS ProArt B650-Creator motherboard is not connected to the integrated GPU (iGPU) of the AM5 CPU. Instead, it is wired to the DisplayPort input (DP-In) on the motherboard, which can be connected to a dedicated GPU. Therefore, without a dedicated GPU, the USB-C DisplayPort on the motherboard is non-functional. This is intended.

The onboard HDMI port is connected to the iGPU of the AM5 CPU. However, it is non-functional pre-boot (e.g., inside the BIOS) when used with a Ryzen 9000 CPU, but it works with a Ryzen 7000 CPU. This appears to be a firmware bug.

Oh, sorry, for my x670 ProArt, with 7945 and/or 7950X3D, the DVI onboard is ok with both iGPU. like you with your 7000 serie.

with RTX cohabitation , just one monitor plugged on the onboard with iGPU for win desktop and the MB is acting as passtrough when i force the use of the RTX (games for ex).Note: the radeon run at full turbo speed to print 1440p desktop, and minimum 2Gb vram, 4Gb to pass all RTX signal when running games, the minimum is 2000MHz for me to keep a good signal.

And with one monitor on each, no trouble anymore, all desktops print well, i can choose with Radeon software, windows, and nvidia drivers on which i launch a game or software (video decode with cuda or cpu, and with One video recode with AMF, one with Nvidia, one with CPU only, all at the same time, a benchmark in backgrond and runing into a game, the CPU work well, no lag  nor bug or whatelse, a eal hapiness those cpu, the more we load them, the more they well run ).

Thank for your info, i better understand the "Relay" role of the usb-c to dvi connection, the manual isn't very clear on this capability, USB-C monitors are relatively new.

Not a good news for me, i've planned to buy a 9950x...I will wait a bit..Good luck for the following.

PS: I had to manually fix the iGPU clock in the Ai-Tweak menu of the bios, if not, i was unable to stay more than 10 seconds in bios without a freeze or another bug. Under Windows, dwm.exe error, black screen, flicker and other surprises....And i think the CPU Vcore impact the GPU vcore when manually setted, auto setting on my MB is the most stable despite somes bugs related to lack of power in certain circonstances (those CPU are very hungry, and the relative fast start of some apps need some too immediate current, the send delay of the PSU give me sometime win err WHEA, pre leak... so i launch 2 apps at the same time..) Fix VCORE resolve those, but make appears others. just choose your pain.
