Help! X670E-A Fans turn up to 100% at Start / Restart

Hello guys,

i hope you can help me!

I have a new Mainoard / CPU / AIO

ROG X670E-A
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
Alphacool Eisbaer Pro HPE Aurora 360

The problem is: is i turn on the Computer oder do a restart, the CPU (or maybe all) Fans turn up to 100% for 10-15 seconds.

Is this normal for this board? It's horrible! The Fans on the AIO are so super loud, i can not live with that!

Or is there maybe an issue with my board? I had a Maximus IX Forumla before and none of my other AIOs have ever turns up to 100% when i turn on my PC or do a Restart.

I did not found any Bios setting which solve this issue..

I'm thankful for any kind of help

Greetings xaracc

Hello,

The fans do not enter their defined state prior to completing POST. You’re likely noticing it due to the fact POST stress tests on X670 can take several seconds depending on the memory parameters set.

Once you have established EXPO settings are stable, you can enable Memory Context Restore. This will bypass certain POST stress tests and retains last successful memory training.

Hi Scone,

first of all, thanks for your reply!

How do i establish a stable Expo Setting? Ist there any guidiance? Because this is the next problem..

I have the G.Skill Trident Z Neo EXPO 6000Mhz CL30, which was listed on your official compatiblity RAM list (QVL).

But the RAM is only running between 5400 and 5600 Mhz

I know that there was some BIOS Updates to the fact, that some AMD Chips burned because of a high SoC.

So how can i reach the 6000 Mhz with this Ram? If i use Expo 1 or Expo 2, it does not have any effect. In both profiles, the RAM stays the same. If i turn the FCLK manually to 3000Mhz, the System does not start.

How do i get a stable Ram and how do i now it, that it is stable to turn on MCR?

Thanks!

Can you confirm what happens when you apply EXPO I and II?

Does the system not POST? Is the DRAM QLED lit?

What do you mean with "Does the system not POST?"
If i turn on the PC or do a restart, The orange DRAM LED lights up for ~20 sek, than the red CPU for ~5 sek and than the fans turn down and the Screen starts.

It happens with both Profiles Expo 1 and Expo 2.
If i manually set the FCLK to 3000Mhz, the system doesnt start. After a while of trying the system restart again and i get the Screen "The system hast posted in safe mode. This may be due to the previous Post attempt failing because of system instability.."

Seems we're conflating different things here.
POST is the procedure before you receive the display output.

Why are you setting FCLK manually? Can you confirm whether setting EXPO profiles behaves the same?

The system is reverting to safe mode as it has failed to complete POST stress tests successfully, i.e. the overclock is not stable. Try increasing VSOC by 20-30mv and see if this helps.

Hi Silent,

"POST is the procedure before you receive the display output." - yes, i know.. and this take up to ~20 Sec.

Why are you setting FCLK manually? I tryed to set it manually with Expo 1 and Expo 2 to 3000Mhz with the hope, that my RAM runs with 6000 Mhz.

If i set it to "auto" and use Expo 1 or Expo 2, my System start.. but as i said, than the POSt takes up to ~20 sec, the RAM LED lit while that and than my system start.. but for this 20 sec, my Fans turn up to 100%.

so now i know that the fans turn up so high due to the POST which takes so long.

The question is now, how do i get my ram to 6000mhz stable? if i simply choose Expo 1 or Expo 2, the ram is between 5400 and 5600mhz.

"The system is reverting to safe mode as it has failed to complete POST stress tests successfully, i.e. the overclock is not stable." - Yes i know.. this happens if i manually set the FCLK to 3000mhz. I did that with the hope that my RAM runs with 6000mhz, but if i do that, i'm reverting to safe mode.

Can you confirm whether setting EXPO profiles behaves the same? - Yes i can start my system with EXP1 and EXP2, but both profiles only run between 5400 and 5600 mhz.

But the POST took really long.. 20, sometimes 30 sec..

Safe mode only starts if i choose expo 1 or expo 2 and manually set the FCLK

Hi Silent,

"Try increasing VSOC by 20-30mv and see if this helps."

you mean i should set the CPU SOC Voltage
- VDDSOC Voltage Override ?

I've set it to the max (1,3V) and now my RAM is between 5738 und 5876 Mhz if i check CPU-Z. But it's not "stable", it's fluctuatig in these range.

Is it maybe simple not possible anymore to reach 6000Mhz due to the 1,3V limitation, which came with the latest BIOS Updates because some AMD burned?

Where do i find the Memory Context Restore Option? I couldn't find it in BIOS.

You may wish to try less voltage. Try values between 0.900v and 1.28v. 30mV increments.

Increase VDD and VDDQ by 20-30mV also.

With which Expo Profile?

With Expo 1 i did not reach more than 5400Mhz.

With Expo 2 and 1,3v SoC i reach 5600-5800Mhz. Is it normal for DDR 5, that the DRAM frequenzy shown in CPU-Z varies between 2860 and 2925 for example? I had a ASUS Maximus IX Formular before with DDR4 and there was always a stable Number.

What is ASUS Expo Tweaker? I have this Option also, but if i turn it on, the RAM Clock is similar to Expo 1 (5400)

"You may wish to try less voltage. Try values between 0.900v and 1.28v. 30mV increments.Increase VDD and VDDQ by 20-30mV also."

Should i try this with Expo 1 or Expo 2?

By the way.. with active memory context restore its faster, my fans turn to 100% for 5-10 sec at start and not for 20-30 sec. But just to be clear, there is no way to turn off that 100% fan start-up completely off?

Thanks for your help!
