Fan step up/down levels

Jack007
Level 8

Not a specific AMD question.....

Does anybody know what the real values are behind "fan step up/down levels" in the bios.

In others/older/previous bioses they used to be values in seconds but now only "level 1" trough 5 are defined. And if the levels (1-5) in reality still mean seconds is their function still the same?

TIA

Hello,

as per the BIOS and manual the setup in terms of time delay is:

Level 0 - Instantaneous change in speed

The higher the level, the slower the change in fan speed, which may result in less noise but worse heat dissipation.

Hi,

That is literately the info text in the bios.  But to what values do the levels correspond.

So level 0 would be 0 sec. What would level 1-5 mean?

Yes, that's why the text exists so not sure why you omitted it from your post. Clearly, these things are subjective given temperature is a key factor. Can't confirm whether the level represents seconds or how many, but whichever level works best for your curve/cooling solution is the most obvious answer to your question

In other/older Asus bioses one could select seconds (see attachment). This gives you a sense of the expected fan behavior. Now only level 0 is well defined (=0 sec.=Instantaneous). What the other levels represent is not clear.

Yes. Can only speculate as to why this was changed, but regardless, the behaviour linearity is fairly straightforward.
