Black screen on boot - ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WIFI and AMD Ryzen 7 9700X

Hi,

I have build a PC with the following parts:

Motherboard: Asus Prime X670E-Pro WIFI

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 3.8GHz

Cooler: be quiet! Pure Rock 2 FX

RAM (4 modules of): Kingston FURY Beast - DDR5 - 32 GB - DIMM 288-PIN - 5600 MHz / PC5-44800 (KF556C40BB-32)

Case: Antec P10C

PSU: Corsair RM750x - 750 Watt - ATX 2.4 - 80 Plus Gold certified

Storage: Samsung M2 drive

I've put everything together, but when I turn it on, the screen is just black; no picture for +5 minutes.

I've read the manual and tried:

- Only one RAM module, same result

- Another RAM module, same result

- Tried both video output on the motherboard; HDMI and Display Port, same result

The QLed says it's memory; it's solid orange, and doesn't change.

I don't suspect the memory to be the problem (it's supported on Asus website) and I've tried with different modules in single configuration (slot A2).

My motherboard is from Feb 2024 (manufacturing date: 2024-02) and the first BIOS supporting the Ryzen 7 9700X is 2613 which was released on 2024-04-17, so I suspect the BIOS doesn't support the CPU.

All Asus support arcticles and videos says to check the BIOS or update the BIOS, but since there is no picture on my screen, I'm pretty lost.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Can I update the BIOS without buying a supported CPU?

Can I determine the BIOS version from the box, manual or anywhere else?

Can I be sure it's the CPU when QLed says it's DRAM?

Any help appriciated!

Best regards

The "BIOS FlashBack" option lets you flash a BIOS without powering on the system.

Download the BIOS, rename it (per the instructions on the BIOS download page) and put it on a FAT32 USB drive. Then plug in the computer (leave it turned off) and press the FlashBack button.

On my X670E-A box, there is a sticker that says "AMD Ryzen 9000 Desktop Ready", which is apparently the sticker motherboards get that are already flashed to a BIOS that supports the 9600X/9700X/9900X/9950X.

My box didn't have a sticker and nothing about the BIOS version.

I didn't know about BIOS FlashBack, but it did the trick, and the computer booted as expected after the BIOS update!

Thank you! That just saved me from buying a second CPU only to update the motherboard.
