Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO system freeze after cold boot and error 31 on Q LED

Hi all,

this is the first time I write in this forum and I hope that someone can help me with my issue.

I have the following configuration:

MB - Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO

RAM - G.SKILL F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR (EXPO 1)

CPU - Ryzen 9 7900X3D

GPU - 3090 Galax HOF

PSU - Corsair HX1500i

Custom water cooling on GPU and CPU.

OS - Windows 11

BIOS - 1709

Everything worked well until I tried to bought a new GPU that arrived faulty and I send it back.

So I reconfigured my pc with the 3090 GPU and the problems started.

Now I have the issue that when I switch it on the system (cold boot) the PC start and when the ROG logo appear then freeze, sometime win 11 start but after some seconds everything going slow and it freeze again.

And on the Q LED there is the error code 31

After 2 or 3 resets or manually switch off, the systems start without issues, with HWinfo64 everything is correct, temperature voltage, ram timings and frequencies so ... no issues... I can play games or start stress tests but the system go ahead without problems.

The problem is present only when I switch it on the day after or if I switched it off and try to switch it on after 1 or 2 hours.

I thought RAMs issues due to the Q LED error 31, I checked my G.SKILL rams with MemTest86, no errors found with expo 1 selected. I really don't know where is the problem....

I also made fresh windows 11 installation, everything works until my next cold boot...

I also updated the BIOS from the 1303 to 1709 but nothing changed.

Someone could help me or found some similar issues?

Thank you

Sandro

Hi All,

I think I finally solved the issue...

For who maybe have the same problem the issue was linked to the "Intel ethernet controller I225-V" installed on my MB.

I updated the firmware of this controller and installed teh last INTEL driver, on the ASUS website the last driver are outdated so please download the last one directly from the INTEL website.

About the firmware you can find easly it searching with google and follwoing the correct procedure to update it.

Today is the first day after one month that my MB x670e started in 15 seconds....without freezing in windows 🙂

Asus Team please verify this issue...

Bye

There are 4 little LEDs under the Q-Code read-out. Which one is lighting up when you get your code? From left to right, they are demarcated as follows:

  1. CPU [Red]
  2. DRAM [Yellow]
  3. VGA [White]
  4. Boot [Yellow green]

This LED, in conjunction with the Q-Code, can be pretty helpful in diagnosing the problem. If the DRAM light is on and the error 31 code is displayed, it might mean there's a memory issue. Have you tried to re-seat it? Have you tried one stick at a time? Have you tried clearing the CMOS? Best of luck!
