Yet another x570e No Post Dual Channel RAM issue

tripperjack

Have been running this rig without issue for 5 years, my son swaps out the keyboard and somehow kablewy now I cannot run the RAM in dual channel. Slots B2 /A2 according to the manual, slots 2 /4 counting from the CPU outward.

Hardware - all my running temps idle and under load are good, always have been, consistent.

Windows 11 up to date (24H2)
AMD Ryzen 7 3800x
Asus x570-e MB stock wraith air cooler
Gigabyte Aorus 2070 super
G.Skill 32GB 2x16gb DDR4 Ripjaws V
G.Skill 64GB 2x32gb DDR4 Trident Z RGB (I bought these to swap out the ripjaws to test, same problem)
Corsair HX850
BIOS 5031 but I did try a handful of older ones, same results.
AMD Chipset driver v6.05.16.221 for Windows 10, Windows 11 64-bit (the latest. corrected the pathway issue and ran the update successfully without any errors)
Both 8-pin and 4-pin power cables are connected

Can't tell you how many times I've re-seated ram and rebooted, cleared cmos etc etc.

If I put 1 stick of ram in in Slot B2, the machine boots great.
If I populate B2/A2 for dual channel the machine gives post code: 60
If I try slots B1/A1 (1/3 from the CPU out) the machine gives a Dram red light error and the machine won't post
If I try slots A1/A2 (3/4 from the cpu) then the machine gives post code: 7d or 0d
If I turn off D.O.C.P. and put a ripjaw in, the machine starts with 1 stick in either slot 2 or 4 (B2/A2)
If I use slots B1/B2 (1/2 from the cpu out) then the machine will boot fine running either set of RAM all 64gb single channel.

Using D.O.C.P ATM to clock to 3600 with the Trident Z's
the Ripjaws default to around 2200

At this point I'm starting to feel like I'm going in circles. tried most every obscure solution I ran across with other x570e and asus users. I guess I am thinking this still could be something that could be worked out by a bios update?

Any ideas anyone? Any help and/or comments appreciated! 🤠

Hi @tripperjack

As the system is a few years old, I would consider reseating the CPU in the socket. Thermal expansion can eventually lead to poor pin pad contact in some cases which can lead to memory detection issues.

Hello Silent Scone,

Thanks for responding. I was reluctant to re seat my CPU but I've gone ahead, cleaned everything up, reapplied thermal paste and reseated the CPU / cooler.

also re-flashed the bios to 5013 successfully using the USB flashback port

  • Populate 1 dimm slot - machine boots
  • slots 2/4 and I end up with a boot code 60
  • 1/3 or 1/4 ends up with a boot code 0d
  • slots 1/2 the machine runs all 64gb at 3600 in single channel

Unfortunately in the end the result is the same. I have another asus strix b550-f running with the same Ryzen 7 3800x, 2x 16gb sticks kingston fury ddr4 and that machine also has the exact same issue, cannot run the ram in dual channel.

Not sure where to go with this except to try to flash to various bios versions again hoping.

Exact same issue on another board would indicate to me the issue resides with the CPU, unfortunately. Perhaps contact AMD support and see what they suggest.

To clarify I have not swapped the CPU to another machine. I just have another machine with the same CPU model and a different board but same problem. I guess I could have just gotten unlucky with 2 Ryzen 3800x cpu's. They were bought years apart not that that would guarantee QC.
