Which RAM kits have run stably with 5000 series CPUs on Crosshair Hero 8 MBs?

Getting my 5900X / Crosshair Hero 8 (non Wifi) to run stably is a continuing horror show and it's been going on for weeks: I can pass any memory / CPU test you like but a game will BSOD or just trigger a black screen and a re-start usually between 30-90 minutes in. It's a fatal WHEA 18 event every time.

I'd been interested to know which RAM kits are running without crashes and instability on Crosshair 8. If we can get a thread going, maybe it will help me and others. Either on or off the QVL would be good to know about. I've had two from the QVL, neither of which have worked

It would be good to know if you can get the RAM running at all (at JDEC/Auto speeds) and whether it will work at DOCP/XMP. I'm interested mostly in examples where it has run out of the box using standard timings and settings provided by the MB rather than custom timings / voltages etc

My case:

MB:
Crosshair Hero 8 (non wifi). Bios 3204

CPU:
5900X

RAM:
HX434C16FB3AK4/32 (not stable at DOCP or JDEC)
CMK32GX4M4K4000C19 (not stable at DOCP or JDEC)

Interesting that it's not on the QVL. Seems like maybe buying the brand is a better strategy than relying on the Asus QVL

It's not just the brand, but the chips/dies used in that memory module.

5900X + C8H Wifi here on 3204. I run 2 kits of G.Skill's F4-3200C14D-32GTSK, are dual rank Samsung B-die. So it's 16GBx4, which runs fine on DOCP default settings.

It does go up to 3600 CL14-15-14-28 @ 1.46V with the 4 sticks.

With 2 sticks, I hit 3866 CL16-16-16-32 @ 1.45V.

Nice! These high quality sticks are tough to track down where I am (the UK), which is what led me down this rabbit-hole in the first place

The CPU is in the wind now (off for RMA) and suspect that's the root of my own problem. When I try this again, I am hopeful for stable - if lesser - performance on the sticks I already have. If I can find it, will run that way for a while. Would love to get hold of some of these though

I'm planning on buying RAMs for my second build (currently using/testing it's first component--CPU--the other parts are waiting to be received). I'm going to buy G.Skill Ripjaws 2400 1.5V 8GB (4 x 2GB) RAM kits from Newegg and the two options are Ripjaws, F3-12800CL9D-4GBRM (ordered), and RipjawsX, F3-12800CL10D-8GBXL. My question is: which one would be more beneficial for me? And also how does VCCSA appear on Crosshair Hero VIII?. I have referred this RAM for Ryzen 5800X guide.

My 2 cents

you might have a faulty cpu, after dealing with multiple ryzen 5000/x570/memory issues, have managed to fix most of them with a positive curve optimizer, usually only 1-2 cores need more (+5 curve optimizer)

this will manifest in memory issues/instability, especially at idle

with curve optimizer, systems I've fixed theres no need to set LLC, VSOC, CCD, IOD

The (mad) conclusion to this story is that AMD RMA'd the CPU and the replacement worked fine with all the other components, so it seems clear that was the root of he problem. By the time it arrived, I had lost patience and bought myself a Z490 board and an 10850K which are now paired with the 4000mhz Corsair RAM. I should really have sold on the 5900X and the Crosshair but I still think they're pretty cool, so now have those in another case with a kit of F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC with which they are working fine at stock settings, with and without XMP.

So in the end I wound up spending a grand more than I had planned and upgrading both my PCs at the same time. But what the heck, everything is working as it should and thanks to covid I'm using them all the time anyway

I run G.Skill F4-3200C14Q-64GVK with DOCP, which I can now confirm are completely stable on the Dark Hero motherboard, running my 5950X at stock.
