Has anyone had success in finding a cable for connecting to the "USB 3.1 Front Panel Connector" ? It is like nothing I have ever seen before...

Got mine direct from Lian-Li here...

It is somewhere in-transit at the moment

Oh, and checking some of the listed cases that have "USB 3.1" on the front panel, half of them just have a USB type C female end (EVGA for example)
In fact in a call to EVGA, they told me to get a USB type C cable and attach it to the back I/O port, route it through the case and connect to their USB Type C female front panel "header". So a case saying USB 3.1 does not guarantee a connector like on these mobos.

Thanks for the tip, It really seems that all the usb 3.1 gen 2 stuff is on its infancy.

After searching and not finding a 3.5" drive bay with USB-C 10Gbps port and a 3.1_e1 cable/connector, I ended up making my own. I posted the process on reddit and imgur - https://imgur.com/gallery/Qbaqa
I used the ASUS ROG Maximus IX Hero motherboard. I will be showing the reader how I made and installed a 3.5" drive bay with USB connections into my DAW rack case and how I connected it to the motherboards headers including the USB3.1_e1.

That is awesome! Thanks for sharing

This is plugged into mine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078Z52Y1X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's working for data transfer but not for video.

Maybe there is an aftermarket "backside" panel with usb 3.1 ports that could be connected to this interior usb 3.1 socket?

Lian-Li also makes a front panel that includes this connector

As a side note I got my cable in the mail today, only took a week, a lot faster than I thought it would be.

I am interested in a case front panel connector to fit in a standard 5.25inch slot which would give me USB3.1 type "A" and "C" but such a thing is as rare as hens teeth or hobby horses doings. NOBODY seems to make such a thing yet. Crazy. Reminds me of how long before USB 3.0 became common on cases. What a state of affairs!

They are indeed rare, but not impossible to find. most seem to like using a SATA Express port though (not available on the CH6 mobo) Or, if you're handy, you could use this cable I found to add a type C to an existing type A insert by cutting an appropriate hole ....

I'm sure the Asus folks will tell you they make an awesome USB 3.1 type C drive bay insert that uses an included pcie card 😉

But yes, you are correct that adoption of USB 3.1 gen 2 will be a slow process, unless of course there is some whiz-bang product that uses it and becomes super popular.

Hi guys sorry if I revive this post but I didn't want to write the same thread.

In short with my motherboard and my case I can't use the USB 3.1 front panel connector.

Is there a way to add 3.1 header support to my motherboard by any chance?
