Temperature Sensors failing/ Fans on Max speed problem

Just wanted to start a thread and see how many other people are having this same issue. Basically the conditions are as follows:

Just using the PC as normal and the I hear all the Case Fans Max out! If i check any monitoring software it states that the motherboard temp sensor is reading -109C. Also all other temps(CPU, CPU DIODE, CHIPSET, and VRM) stop responding to change in CPU load. A quick restart fixes the problem but it is very annoying. It happens on a daily basis. I have not figured out what is causing this.

I have seen similar posts on the forum but have yet to see a solution.Figured if we could compile everyone that is having this problem on a single thread it would help and maybe @asus has something in the works for this.

I think he just Googled that... My MB has been behaving for a week now without fan nor temperature issues.
I have done nothing else but:

1. Installed-and-uninstalled complete AI Suite 3
2. Put service AsusFanControlService in Manual mode.
3. Installed latest Aida64 version 5.92.4333 Beta

4. In Bios 1403 optimized fan controller using only CPU fan. Manual mode.
5. ( and an internal fan ventilating from long-side under under the MB. ??? )
6. Connected more fans. Now using 5 ports. ( Idling at cpu 32 °C, mb 30 °C )

EDIT: Now 10 days after those changes I still had no problems. Today I upgraded Windows 10 to pre-release-build 16273 and now AIDA64 can only get a minimal set of readings from the MB sensors. Still no problems with fans nor temperatures.

No, I did not just Google this.

Many people post on the forums complaining about their issues without disclosing the software they are running on their system. This is why I asked a bunch of questions in my first post in this thread. There are many people who are not complaining about this issue.

AIDA is one of the problem software and perhaps updating will help.

His post did not describe any method of trying to fix the problem, so the basic questions have to be asked. I am aware of this problem. I do not ass-u-me he did everything.

Software is complete up to date. I have tried without software as well.

I'm having a similar problem. But instead of fans stuck on max speed, mine get stuck at random times. Sometimes the fans stay at minimum speeds, sometimes at max, sometimes somewhere in between.

It rarely happens, but worried that I may damage components from heat if I don't catch it in time. For example, I was playing a game, but the fans speeds did not ramp up. Luckily I have an external display monitoring my water temps and I saw it at 47C.

I thought maybe it was monitoring software like someone mentioned, so I stopped using HWinfo. But just now it happened again after running 3D Mark. My fans went up to about 90% and stuck there. The only software running at the time was Steam, 3D Mark, and MSI Afterburner.

I'm using Chassis2 and Chassis 3 headers, and when this happens, both are affected.

So It appears my issue is extremely close to yours!

I just posted a few days ago in the 1501 BIOS Thread about it, and was pointed here by an informed user. Just read through the thread. So the OP has/had a problem where his sensors Malfunctioned and then the problem happened. He also states his Fans Run To Max.

My problem is pretty much Identical to The Last Poster I am quoting. It seems to be completely random when my controller goes out. And when it does the fans get stuck on the speed they were at when the controller stops responding. I can't find any system events that lead me to the issue. I often don't even realize it right when it happens because I run my fans around 30 to 40 percent depending on where they are located, and don't start with an agressive curve until about 59C. So I only notice it right away when it happens while playing a game or running a bench mark, because the fans spin up to a very audible 80 percent, and then when the Temp comes down, my fans will stay up at 80 percent until a reboot. Although it usually happens just randomly when the Temp is sitting around Idle between 35 and 45c, so I might not notice until I see my temps climb and don't see or hear my fans responding.

Luckily I have incredibly good airflow in my case, so even with them spinning between 30 and 40 Percent, it seems to be enough to keep my Temps below 70 Tdie, even while running an Aida Stress Test, which actually surprised me, but I digress.

So I too thought this was a software thing. I have a Corsair H100i V2 and a Corsair rm1000i so I run CLink, which is some buggy ass software. I initially ran all of my fan headers off of my Corsair Link Commander Pro, so didn't notice issues at first with the Onboard Fan Controller. But because of the buggy nature of Link, It would crash and I would lose the ability to control my fans at least 2 or 3 times a session, so I completely Unistalled Corsair Link, and plugged in all of my fans to the Motherboard.

I have a 3 Monitor Setup and use only HWinfo to monitor temps on the third screen. Although I thought this might be an issue too, so I uninstalled that for a time being, and Aida64 to no avail. I remove all traces of programs out of the registry when I uninstall a program so I am as certain as possible there is no trace left.

I also dual boot to a fresh Windows 7 Install (Instead Of my Win 10 Pro Daily Driver) and this has not had any Fan control or Monitor Software installed (Except HWinfo64) and the same damn thing happens.

I built my system when BIOS 1401 was new, and have flashed every BIOS and Beta BIOS since all the way up to 1501 which is what I am on now. I use all my headers except the Water Header, My Pump Is plugged into the AIO Header, And All PWM Fans are spread across the remaining CPU AND Chassis Headers. I have tried setting Manual Curves in Q Control and using the presets, nothing seems to fix it.

Also as an Experiment I installed AI Suite and used Fan Xpert to control the fans, and the same damn THING HAPPENS!!! At some point, sometimes minutes, sometimes hours into a boot, My fans get stuck at a point on the curve and no longer change. I really am at a loss.

Not sure what else I can add to help, but I have tried most things I can think of and still can't figure out why the hell this is happening.

Any Suggestions would be appreciated. For now I just boot off the machine when not in use. O also, Hibernation and Sleep are both Disabled.

Good Luck everyone, hopefully ASUS Jumps on this for us, I only use ASUS motherboards because I have always loved the Quality. This is the first one to disappoint, and it sucks because its a lovely board, but this problem is just something that I consider too important not to have. I am about to try another Fan Controller, this time from NZXT to see if their software is better than Corsairs Buggy Suite, and is actually reliable. Something has to work...

P.S. I Miss SpeedFan...

I had these problems for several months but since 10 days I have had no problems at all. My problems occurred when surfing or idling and the fans went into low rpm. My CPU fan blows down towards the motherboard and I don't have any front fans cooling the MB. I placed a 12mm fan blowing at low speed in under the motherboards top front side. This might have been the trick. Try it and report ! (Bios 1403)

That is Interesting... Just Curious. Do You happen to know your Reported Motherboard Temps for Before and After the addition of the 12mm Fan?

If you don't know what it was before, then just after would suffice. In fact if you could give us your current temps for Motherboard, PCH, and VRM, that would be awesome! All Temps can be found in a Portable Version of HWinfo64, so no need to install anything.

I don't have any fans on the right side panel case, for the backside of the Motherboard. However I do have really great airflow passing through my case, not only do I have 2 front intake Fans, but I also have 3 120mm Intake Fans mounted on my Left Side Panel. 1 aligns up perfectly with the PCH and my NVMe drive, fan curve is set to the PCH temp. Another Side Fan is above the PCH fan and Lines up with the VRM and Memory, and is set to the VRM Temps. Then The Third Lines up with the Graphics Card, and is set to that Temp. I also have great exhaust, and make sure to maintain Positive Pressure throughout the entire curve.

Obviously it sucks when the Curve sticks, and they stay stuck at The Last speed they were at before the Controller decides to take a nap, but even at the lowest point of my curve, my PCH, VRM, and Motherboards are all at great Temps. My Motherboard Temp never goes about 32C (In a Room that is almost always 29c (I Live in Las Vegas, NV and Have a TON of Heat Generating Electronics in my Office. My VRM Temps Never go above 37c, and My PCH Temp being the Hottest still never goes about 54 under normal use.

I am curious to see what your temps on each of those components are reporting, and if the back of the motherboard fan does indeed drop a Motherboard Components Temp down enough that it prevents the fan controller issue from happening. This is something I am really interested in, Let me know if you are willing to grab the temps for us, and of course let me know if you need anything from me, I would be glad to help in any way I can.

Motherboard temperature has always been under 32 C according to probes.

After searching for the location of this chip I found it under the rear MB-cover (PCIe slot 3). That is right under my hot Radeon R9 290 graphics card. I have now replaced the 120 mm with a slow-blowing 80 mm fan laying right over the chip. Time will show...

Update: I am a Windows 10 insider and last preview update 16278 prevented AIDA64 to get all sensor data. There are now an AIDA64 beta update that fixes this problem. ( http://download.aida64.com/aida64extreme_build_4343_h7wcmv5ykx.zip )

EDIT:
I have during the last five days been running AI Suite 3 complete installation and I am using 7 fan ports (and AIDA64 beta).
Still no fan nor temp. problems !
