Are we to guess at what your system is - what is your system specification?
Generally,
Quad Channel - Must be on QVL for Quad Channel or may not work DOCP at all.
Dual Channel - Helps to be on the QVL, but should be able to run DOCP and default RAM speed.
Assuming ATX Motherboard, again we need full system specifications, bios and OS.
In Dual channel must use ram slots 2 & 4 from the CPU.
