Ryzen 1600X Owners Overclocking (The 2.2Ghz Problem)

Hey everyone, I wanted to make a thread for owners of the 1600x. I have noticed the after bios 1002 overclocking in the traditional fashion no longer works without locking the processors @ a 22 multiplier. I have also seen several post on this forum confirming that the problem only seems to happen to 1600x owners. I figured that we should band together to see if ASUS can resolve the problem with a bios update.

I have tried the following bios:

1002-Functions "normal"
1201-Exhibits 2.2Ghz issue
9943-Exhibits 2.2Ghz issue
9945-Exhibits 2.2Ghz issue
1401-Exhibits 2.2Ghz issue
1403-Exhibits 2.2Ghz issue

This thread is not to say that all the bios revisions after 1002 are without merit. The 1401 bios has done wonders for my ram and temps. But I still can not use manual multiplier control modes or manual voltage modes without getting thrown into the 22 multiplier.

Overclocking with Psates-

I have worked around this issue by using PState overclocking. Using A0 for the 40 multiplier and A2 for the 40.5 multiplier has yielded results. Using this configuration with Core voltage offset modes gives me control over the multiplier and Core voltage. This is how I have been overclocking after bios 1002.

In closing I hope that those of you who own the 1600x can chime in on this thread and help others who are experiencing this problem or just have conversations about our experiences with the 1600x and C6H combo.

looks like re-seating the CPU is a good option to try. I know the previous problem of locked low multiplier has been solved with the latest bios. Still issues with the bios but at least they are working on it.

My system is running very stable since my last post with 40 x 100 mhz.
I think that resaeting the cpu was the cure, but still nog 100% sure.

Which cooling system do you use?

Did you Cmos and removing the battery for a few minutes?

I'm using a Kraken X62. The board is back at the retailer currently as instructed by Andrew Tiet from Asus support. The retailer have found no fault with the board, as I expected.

I will go and pick up the board today and try removing the battery and see if that does anything.

EDIT: Rebuilt my rig, tried removing battery, still the same issue.

Asus support are being absolutely useless as well.

I can't recommend too much as I am new to OC'ing and Ryzen builds, but I just purchased my new build and had the 2.2Ghz problem while attempting a modest overclock. I have a Ryzen 1600x with Asus Rog Strix B350-F mobo and a single G.Skill TridentZ 8GB 3200 CL16 stick (waiting on a replacement pair, 1st had a bad stick).

I couldn't OC the cpu at all with bios 1001, since whenever I adjusted the multiplier the cpu would lock itself at 2.2 Ghz as others have seen.

Flashing the brand new Nov 2017 Asus B350-F bios 3203, meant to prep the board for next year's cpus, has allowed me to adjust the OC multiplier. I am a little worried though, as VDDCR CPU Voltage (set to Auto) is showing 1.525 which seems way too high... shouldn't it be below 1.4? *I wonder if I should manually lower it to 1.4... UPDATE I will listen to my heart and try reducing the voltage below 1.4V, afraid of toasting my new system with this new bios!

the 1.5v spikes will be gone
you will be able to oc with no problems

Thanks Darkage. Now I seem to be stable at 3.9Ghz hitting 65 degs C max using prime95 to stress test. *Interestingly, this is working with an offset of MINUS 0.125... cpu voltage just above 1.225V or so. *Is that surprising? *Or pretty normal? *Thanks!

I've been having the same issue. I even switched chipsets. I have a Ryzen 1600x. Yesterday, I tried to turn off boost and run high performance power settings. Still 2.2
