ROG Strix x570-e gaming boot/reboot issue.

Hello!

I have been having a weird issue when I cold boot, or reboot from windows where the BIOS never posts, and I either have a Q-code of 64, or 98, and the Boot light stays illuminated. If I hit the reset button, it posts immediately, every time. The system is stable, and I have had no other issues. The machine comes out of suspend/low power state just fine. I have been in contact with support, and have tried the following below...

Removed all USB devices, keyboards, etc.

Removed all SATA devices.

Cleared CMOS, both with jumper, and with removing battery.

Flashed to newest bios (though this has been happening since the machine was built).

Ran only 1 stick of ram, and switched the sticks around, using the * A2 B2 slots as you should.

So, im not sure where to go from here. I did not remove my m.2 drive which is in the 1 slot, but support said that isnt necessary.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I can always boot the machine, so its kind of why I have been dealing with it, but I have more time lately and have wanted to figure this out somehow.

Hi Hollovoid,

Intimitant faults are often the most frustrating. Regardless of what support said;

What model is the m.2 drive?

What GPU? Not running any riser cables? I would consider checking for any VBIOS updates for your GPU as some 3000 series NVIDIA cards experienced hand-off issues prior to an update from NVIDIA.

Thank you SO much..

So I have a evga 3080ti, and I have always been reluctant to use video card software because I don’t overclock, and most cards I have had do not usually post bios updates, or not without asking.

anyways, I installed the EVGA software, and it immediately asked to update the VBIOS, so I updated that, and the nvidia firmware after that, and now the system boots flawlessly after shutdown and restart.

I was chasing the wrong thing because the code on the board and the status light didn’t stop on vga.

Thank you so much for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. It definitely was the handoff issue with this series of video card.

No problem! It’s not often one needs to update VBIOS, especially on Nvidia GPU. Glad that resolved it for you.
