ROG Strix B550-E random reboots if DOCP enabled

Hi,

I have a ROG Strix B550-E with BIOS 1401.

If I enable DOCP the pc will randomly reboots when windows is idle or performing light workload such as browsing (not if I perform heavy workloads such as Folding@home).

If I leave it to auto the pc will be perfectly stable but the ram will run at 2133...

The CPU is a 3700x and all the others components including the ram worked perfectly with my previous board Asus Prime X470-Pro

My ram is a 2x16gb 3600 gskil kit: G.SKILL F4-3600C16D-32GVKC DDR3600 16-19-19-39 1T

The board arrived with bios 0805, I tried every BIOS from 0805 onwards.

Any idea?

Have you actually tried the new 1.2.0.0 AGESA based bios which was released for most X570/B550 boards this week?

DOCP/XMP at least works for me. Older versions from late December backwards were dreadful. It is pretty much when 1.1.9.0 was released I was able to get stability back without manually altering voltages.

If you don't want to upgrade to the latest, changing the RAM and CCD/IOD voltages seemed the only way to get things working.

I will not try a beta bios, I will wait for the final bios.

If the issues is not solved in 2 weeks I will send back the motherboard and buy MSI /Gigabyte

I doubt everything will be solved in 2 weeks. The beta bioses are significantly more stable than the old.

Before you return the motherboard, go and take a look at the Gigabyte and MSI forums as well as the reddit threads on the issues. Things are not better with the other manufacturers. Basically this is an AGESA related issue.

Since the 5000 series processors came out, AMD and the board partners need to get the BIOS sorted. The issues affect both 5000 and 3000 series processors, but those with longer memories will remember similar issues a year ago when the 3000 processors first came out. The BIOS did end up improving, although some of us have had a few sleep/wake and USB issues which have been ongoing. The WHEA related issues came a lot more recently since the 5000 launch and seem to affect both processors.

As mentioned, manually tweaking your IOD/CCD voltages may help if you are not prepared to try and beta bios (although for the life of me, I can't think of a good reason why you would not!).

In my case, the old BIOS needed the following to get working:

*Cpu Soc Voltage 1.1v
*Vddg iod 950mv
*Vddg ccd 900mv

I also pushed the RAM voltage around 1.37 from memory, but this will depend on your config.

Personally I would go down the beta bios path. It's a lot smoother than your frying pan / fryer option.

I decided to try beta bios 1801.

The usb issues are stil present if I set the ram to 3600 and disapper when I set it to 3200.

This is horrible

With ram at 3600 I cannot even type a sentence with my keybiard (microsoft keyboard 600) ....

1801 doesn't fix the USB problems, no. AGESA >=1.1.9.0 does fix WHEA reboots at idle though.

fixing idle reboot is great, now how to fix usb problem?

I guess we will run the RAM at 3200Mhz for a while, that's the frequency AMD promises
BUT..
AMD never promises RAM can run at 3600Mhz in a stable condition, i saw one thread in AMD forum. That's how they answer...and not their problem if you cannot run at 3600Mhz...

for those who can run at 3600Mhz, I guess it's just you are lucky to have a good silicon...

In daily run,, I wont notice any difference unless I want to benchmark it ...

Asus advertises this motherboard as supporting DDR4 up to DDR4 5100(OC)...

it cannot even run 3600...

are we sure it is an AMD problem and not an asus problem?

i have no doubt the board can run at 5100OC, Asus piles up good stuffs on board to make sure voltage and current can be supplied steadily

up to RAM manufacturer to keep up with me 🙂
and up to CPU to keep up with it 🙂

I suspect it's more to do between CPU and RAM and CPU is the most as it's at the mercy of its controller...

The ram ia certified for 3600 and the cpu is a brand new 5800x. I also tested with a 3700x and same issue.

USB not working with ram speed at 3600 it's no doubt a bios issue in my experience

Seems to be very common on those boards
