I set up my new Dark Hero build a few days ago, and I occasionally get this error on POST.

"The VGA card is not supported by UEFI driver.
CSM (Compability Support Module) settings have been changed
For further adjustments, press [F1] to enter BIOS setup

The message only comes when the monitor has gone into deep sleep mode overnight and then I turn on the computer. It also seems to happen if I turn the PC/Monitor on in a certain way but I haven't really figured out how to trigger it exactly.

The monitor is an ASUS PG35VQ, connected via DisplayPort. There is also a Valve Index plugged in via HDMI.

My graphics card is a Nvidia 3080 Founder's Edition. I never saw this message on my Asus Maximus Hero VIII motherboard that I was using previously with CSM disasbled and the same graphics card.

The Qcode 02 is 'AP initialization before microcode loading'.

I had this issue too on the Crosshair Hero VIII with a 6800. It would be somewhat random. Sometimes I'd boot fine, others I'd hit GPU errors. I had this behaviour both with and without my riser cable. If it did boot without hitting a POST code or flipping CSM on it would work perfectly fine.

I'm on 3103, forcing the slot to PCIe 3.0 mode completely avoids the problem.

In PCIe 4.0 mode I found that increasing SOC voltages and reseating the graphics card helped. Running 2 sticks of RAM vs 4 also seemed to reduce GPU POST errors. The riser cable didn't seem to make a difference in my case but I imagine it's more likely to make things worse in general.

Interesting, I tried setting my PCIe slot to GEN 3 but the problem occurred again. I might play around with the SOC voltages.

I've been doing some other troubleshooting:

When using the primary monitor (PG35VQ) in deep sleep mode or turned off with the Index plugged in, the issue occurs.
When using the primary monitor (PG35VQ) with deep sleep disabled and the Index plugged in, the issue does not occur.
When using only the Index plugged in, I think the issue occurs judging from the Q-Code and LEDs - although obviously no way to see if there is an error message on POST.
When using the primary monitor (PG35VQ) in deep sleep mode and a secondary monitor (PG279Q) instead of the Index, the issue does not occur.
When using the PG279Q as the primary monitor in deep sleep with the Index plugged in, the issue does not occur.

So my conclusion is this is occuring because the Index is being interpreted during POST as the primary monitor. Unfortunately, the PG35VQ has a very deep sleep mode so it is unable to turn on quickly enough for the BIOS to see it as the primary monitor - instead it sees the Index and flips out. With the PG279Q with a faster activation from sleep the problem does not happen.

Now the question is why does the display type have any bearing on the motherboard correctly or incorrectly interpreting the presence of UEFI/GOP on the graphics card? Surely this is on the card or not, and the type of display should not impact boot.

This behaviour is unique to this motherboard though, as I said the exact configuration worked okay with the previous motherboard (Maximus VIII Hero).

I have a feeling that anything in the overall configuration that causes instability or latency can cause this issue. RAM should never reasonably cause GPU errors but it did in my case. I imagine if the GPU is slow to respond to the POST sequence due to the monitors plugged in it might cause similar issues.

Many monitors have options in their settings to disable deep sleep type modes or enable a fast wake mode. I'd take a look to see if those are available on yours.

I have the same problem but I have a Rift S plugged in. It's because of the sleep profile of the monitor and the rift being interpreted as the primary monitor.
I resolve the issue by unplugging the rift until I need it.

I have a TUF RTX 3080 and a STRIX X570-i with Ryzen 5 5600X... for the first several months in my BIOS - Under the Utilities > GPU info I would have a sweet NVidia GPU image and a bunch of card info... Then seemingly randomly I started getting the UEFI Error Invalid VBIOS

The GPU info area now says Invalid VBIOS

I am now attempting to RMA the TUF 3080 (Hoping they replace it for a new one) but I pray it's not the MOBO... Trying to research other's with the same issue and their resolution

Not Hero.. but X570-I with 3070TI OC. Also experience sporadic crash.. then unable to boot .. or boot into UEFI not support on graphic card.. annoying...

I have a similar problem with the BIOS 1410 Beta version if the monitor is turned off when the computer is first turned on

Same problem with ROG CROSSHAIR VIII EXTREME, power color 6900 xt , no idea how to fix it.

I researched this message pretty hard and I haven't come across any conclusive fix.

Some say turning the monitor on first then starting your pc solves the message. 

Some say setting Secure Boot to Windows UEFI Mode solves the message.

 

Have you updated to the latest motherboard bios?
