Desperate appeal for guidance!! -- Problem after years of solid reliable BOLTS4BREKFAST's 4901 BIOS on R4E, I upgraded GPU to NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics card and now system (usually) fails to resume from S3 sleep/standby mode properly. (Never had this issue with old Radeon 6970 installed.)

Symptoms: fans turn on, but monitors dark, no input possible, only option is forced power-cyle and almost always leads to file corruption, especially index files. Reputable source in NVIDA forums mentions problems with many newer video cards in older motherboards, states "
sleep state is stored in acpi table in the bios, for recent video cards this data is often incomplete due to the VROM size." They also state that the failure to resume " it is actually crashing the storage controller / storage driver" (which would account for my file corruption.) Most recent forums thread in which I participated is: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/955352/geforce-1000-series/gtx-1060-windows-sleep-s3-proble...

Is the R4E BIOS too limited or does not have enough room to accommodate all the info in the (VROM ?) of these new video cards? Could the fact I'm using the modded BIOS be an issue?

Thanks for any help, guidance, suggestions!

Hello,

I just wanted to report that I was able to successfully install Bolts4Brekfast's modded P9X79 PRO BIOS/UEFI firmware v4701 with NVMe Support on my ASUS P9X79 PRO, along with an Intel 600p Series SSD in an ASUS Hyper M.2 X4 Mini Card plugged into PCIe 3.0 x16_4 slot (aka Slot No. 5) on the motherboard and was able to successfully install Microsoft Windows 10 with UEFI firmware and Secure Boot support enabled. I had some trouble getting the system to boot at first, but allowing UEFI/CSM mode to automatically configure itself sorted things out.

I had originally removed the motherboard, CPU (i7-4820K) and RAM (64GB Patriot Viper) from service because of problems with video output (ASUS ROG STRIX-GTX1060-O6G-GAMING GeForce GTX1060 attached to 27" Auria WQHD display) dying at random intervals, but since re-seating the RAM and building a new system around it, no further problems have occurred.

System is currently configured as follows:

  • ASUS P9X79 PRO motherboard
  • Intel i7-4820K CPU with Intel fan
  • 64GB Patriot Viper DDR3 RAM (2 × PD000282-PV332G160C0QK kits)
  • Slot 1 - ASUS GeForce GTX 1050Ti Phoenix PH-GTX1050TI-4G PCIe video adapter
  • Slot 3 - ASUS USB 3.1 2-Port Card, Type A PCIe adapter card
  • Slot 4 - ASUS ASUS PCE-AC55BT 802.11ac Wifi AC1200 Bluetooth 4.0 PCIe card
  • Slot 5 - ASUS Hyper M.2 X4 Mini Card with 256GB Intel 600p SSD

System is powered by a Corsair 750W power supply which has tested as good, and assembled in a Fractal Design Core 2300 case for the chassis.

If anyone has any recommendations for burn-in tests those would be appreciated.

Also, I'd like to thank Bolts4Brekfast for creating the modded BIOS.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

Would it be possible to make a version with NVME TESTING for the MAXIMUS VI EXTREME?

Thanks for your great work!

Wow after 2 months still no reply. Doesn't matter though I did the bios mod for the ASUS MAXIMUS VI EXTREME with another method and it works like a charm.

Does the bios for the Rampage IV Extreme support 128 GB?

In this announcement they mention the release of a new BIOS for enabling 128 GB memory on X79 boards but strangely the RIVE is not mentioned.
Thanks in advance,
ANtonio

Hi Bolts, I have a RIVGene with a 4930k, running Asus stock bios 4901. I was wondering if you could at some point add NVMe support on your modded 4901 bios. I know the RIVG is probably not as popular as its bigger brothers, after reading the whole thread, I did notice a few people had asked, so us RIVG owners would be greatful if you could work your magic, thanks in advance. This forum is lucky to have people like yourself to help the community, great work.

Hi, when updating bios asus rampage IV Extreme 4901, the Orom Sata intel rst v15.2.1.2771 is not compatible with my motherboard because when installed it does not detect it, it only detects max version v15.1.0.2545, could solve that or It is impossible, I have chipset x79, with Intel i7 3960X Sandybridge.

A greeting.
