Keep ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming from changing boot order automatically

Hi all ASUS users,

I’m trying to solve a strange/annoying behavior  for some time now that I'm facing with the boot order.

I use my computer for gaming and also for work. I don’t like and I don’t want to mix the gaming with the work, so I have my setup with two M.2 Samsung SSD 980 PRO 1TB for gaming and other Samsung SSD 980 PRO 2TB for work.

This is what I have done for Windows installation.

With just 1TB drive plugged in on the M.2_1(SOCKET3) I have installed windows 11 and done all the configurations.

Them I have removed the 1TB M.2 drive, and plugged in the 2TB on the M.2_2(SOCKET3) and installed windows 11, all my work software’s and done all the configurations.

Them I plug booth M.2 drivers and set the boot priority/order to the 1TB first and 2TB second. (I have done like this, because I just don’t want windows to detect other windows.)1.jpg

Everything works just perfect. When I turn on the PC it boots directly on the 1TB drive, and if I want to work, I just press F8 to enter on the boot selection menu and select the 2TB drive. Again, everything works just perfect.

The problem I’m facing is that if I spend some days using the F8 boot to enter on the 2TB drive, after a couple days the boot order is changed automatically on Motherboard.

If I go to the BIOS Setup and change the boot order again and try to save, its stats “You have not made any changes to the BIOS settings”. So, I need to do other changes on the BIOS to assume the modifications and save. Them go back again to the BIOS and place the original values.2.jpg

I have the last version of the BIOS firmware installed:

So, my questions are:

Is there a way I can stop the BOOT order from changing automatically?

Is this a AI machine learning? If so how can I disable it.

Thanks for the help.

Best regards,

ARamos

Hi @ARamos

I suspect given it's changing after a number of days using one drive, that Windows is the culprit.

Have you tried setting the Boot Order via BCDEDIT?

Thanks for the reply,

I have never used BCDEDIT before, but after some reading and investigation it’s good to manage the boot order when you have different Operation System Installed on the same hard drive. This is not my case.

It doesn't make sense to me, since the operation system were installed individually by removing the hard drive so they don’t detect any other operation system already installed.

Basically, I’m using ties Dual Drive Dual Boot Method A: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWVte9WGxGE&t=446s

Because they are two different hard drivers installed individually, when I run the BCDEDIT command it only detects the operation system on the hard drive I’m currently on.

On the BIOS I set:

Boo Option #1 : Windows Boot Manager M.2_1(SOCKET3)

Boo Option #2 : Windows Boot Manager M.2_2(SOCKET3)

I don’t understand how does Windows is able to go to the BIOS and change the boot order.

I’m still searching…
