I tried every repair option: CMOS, update BIOS, remove peripherals, usb devices etc - to no avail.
I then switched to a crosshair viii hero reserve, which booted up only to enter code 98 after 1 day. In both cases, the GPU exerted a black image. I have always used ASUS boards which were guaranteed to be reliable. Everything passes. Thanks in advance for any constructive repair suggestions if these two bricks still qualify for that.
