Disabling AMD Cool & Quiet - how ?

Hi everyone,

Been trying to find this via documentation and help on Overclock.net but they're no help. I searched around BIOS and cannot find it either.

Reason why I am asking is that apparently AMD cool & quiet will cause stuttering in game and I've experienced this in PUBG, and Overwatch.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Uninstall the (Windows) Cool & Quiet software, if it's installed.
Disable the Cool & Quiet setting in BIOS.

Stuttering is likely caused by fans ramping up and down or kicking on and off during gameplay, probably over and over again intermittently because the hardware temps can rapidly shift between C&Q temperature thresholds. You can widen the temp settings to reduce this stuttering, you can simply have the cooling/fans run at a fixed rate (close to maximum) instead.

Disabling C&Q might force your firmware, software, or operating system to control the fans themselves anyhow. Or it might force your hardware to run hot enough to trigger faults and shutdowns.

Check your Power Options in the Windows Control Panel, you might be able to change or disable something there to reduce stuttering without needing to disable C&Q, a much less drastic solution (which might or might not work in your gaming, but worth a shot).

AFAIK AMD CBS > ZEN Common Options > Global C-States Control is AMD Cool'n'Quiet.

AMD Overclocking guide on AMD site, page 13

If AMD Cool’N’Quiet is disabled, then low power c-states will also be disabled.

You will see in posts by Elmor /Raja@ASUS :-

If you want to keep C-states, make sure to set Advanced\AMD CBS\Zen Common Options\Global C-state Control = Enabled.

I use PState 0 OC via UEFI, I have Global C-State Control: Enabled, for my gaming no issues.
