Crosshair VIII Impact - RAM Crash in Windows

I'm having a very frustrating problem with this mainboard. I tied 3 different 3200Mhz RAM sticks and even gone true a mainboard replacement and I also have tested it with an AMD 3900XT CPU and AMD 5900X CPU.
But no matter what I do, as soon as I enable the XMP profile on this mainboard or set the RAM above 2600Mhz then my Windows starts crashing.

When I set the SOC Voltage manually from auto (1.000) to around 0.8500-1.0250 then everything runs stable with 3200Mhz. :rolleyes:

So what's is going on with this SOC Voltage setting in this mainboard? is it bugged?
I don't want to be forced to set this manual. Because if I sell my PC and the new owner updates the BIOS then he will never find out why his Windows starts crashing. And this also doesn't give me much trust in this mainboard. 😞

You're absolutely right mate! I've crashed after 4 passes on 0,925v, after 2 passes on 0,965v, almost instantly on 1,15v and didn't even boot and needed to CLEAR CMOS on 0,850v.

Now I'm running on 0,9500v and so far it's stable after 7 hours.

I didn't know it was so finnicky. It's kind of hell if You ask me :D. When I find the right voltage, I'll contact Asus and let them know, although, I think they won't care as always.

No need to contact ASUS. Each CPU is different, and the auto rules cater to the worst possible case, but unfortunately, it's not possible to ensure stability with auto ruling on ALL CPU samples. It comes down to a voltage alignment issue, sometimes user intervention is needed.

I understand mate. But I'm pointing now here to a bigger elephant in the room. According to what I read on forums, it seems that every single person wanting their QVL memory kit running D.O.C.P. on Impact is having problems. Meaning, I'm tryin' to fix Asus' problem here.

Is there a solution to this particular issue? I mean I spent dozens of hours debugging Impact, with QVL memory kits. QVL exists for sole purpose, plug'n'play compatibility with products, mainly premium ones like G.Skill Trident Z Neo memory made specially for Ryzen and this board.

So what could be done about this?

I'm not sure you do understand, otherwise, you wouldn't be asking the same question ;).

Maybe I should have elaborated a bit more;

The QVL can only act as guidance. No vendor makes assurances for overclocking. Don't forget the motherboard acts as an interconnect, not all CPU will be stable at the same FCLK at the same voltage.

Signal rails sensitive to voltage adjustment aren't anything new with overclocking, so I'm not sure what it is you're asking.

My bad. Forgot to mention, that no QVL kit works in both JEDEC, nor X.M.P./D.O.C.P. I managed to run previous kit on manual 1600 MHz and the new one not at all and it was restarting PC throughout the whole MemTest.

What I wanted to say is that Asus crates a product ,a faulty one [like previous gen Apex's, etc.] but won't fix it, nor will RMA and exchange the product for a functional one.

These Impact's are obviously faulty, most of them, today I received second unit and it has the very same problems.

Thus, I'm trying to find a solution, not sure whether it's for everyone, but at least I'm trying, not like Asus which is ignoring these facts.

And in the end, I had to lower the "default" D.O.C.P. voltage of 1.45V set by G.Skill and Asus, to 1.35V to  achieve absolute stabiity.

Can you explain what's arrogant? I'm just not a huge fan of baseless accusations with little to go on claiming "everything is broken", this doesn't really help anyone including people trying to help, or ASUS

Regardless of what may be assumed from marketing DOCP/XMP does not guarantee automatic overclocking. The tighter the timings or higher the frequency compared to stock specifications the more likely chance there is that the user will need to manually make some adjustments for stability.

ASUS has verified the motherboard for the best stability and compatibility when installed with the devices in CPU/Memory QVL list.

Where You say that Asus doesn't guarantee anything and laugh at my "vast ignorance", har har...

Second. No one wants overclocking. Stop mentioning overclocking memory, please, stop it. We want the same thing we have on the same motherboard from Asus with inferior chipset [B550 iTX]. Nothing more, nothing less.

What does it include?

1. Promised X.M.P. /D.O.C.P.  "overclock" profile, since it works perfectly on ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING, which is vastly inferior and cheaper compared to ROG Crosshair VIII Impact.
2. If the X.M.P/D.O.C.P. isn't applicable [which makes absolutely no sense, if the motherboard is "healthy" and not faulty by design/default], at least JEDEC profile would be great.

Both don't work on ROG Crosshair VIII Impact. I managed to run 3600C16D-32GTZN in JEDEC, yes, but not F4-3600C16D-64GTZN, I had to manually downclock the kit to 1600 MHz, which is the worst possible available option in BiOS/UEFi settings!!!

I tested 2 units of these motherboards. I tested them both with Ryzen 5 3700X & Ryzen 5950X. I tested them both with two different PSU's [Silverstone SX800-LTI and Seasonic Connect 750 GOLD], two VGA's EVGA RTX 2060 XC Super and Intel Arc A770 Limited edition. Last but not least, I tested both motherboards with F4-3600C16D-32GTZN and F4-3600C16D-64GTZN, which are both Ryzen Neo memory made specially for Ryzen 3000, 4000 and 5000 series and are QVL memory [from the side of G.Skill].

Both of these memory kits don't work nor in X.M.P./D.O.C.P. ASUS profile, nor in JEDEC - factory default clock and timing by Joint Electron Device Engineering Council which should work on every single DDR4 board no matter the QVL and/or any futher compatibility. It's litteraly the factory/definition default - "fail-safe" configuration and mode of the memory.

Both memory kits work like charm on ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING both in JEDEC and X.M.P./D.O.C.P. profiles.

So, lo and marvel on at my rant, I"m not happy that I can't make the QVL memory kit work in it's very basic mode [JEDEC], nor X.M.P./D.O.C.P. none of them.

That's what I find arrogant. You're covering up one of many Asus's sc*ew ups, I get it. But better tactic would be ignoring the thread and leave the tribulation to people, rather than tryin' to openly mock them. That's what I find arrogant. If You can't help people, don't mock them, mainly when the company You represent to some extent is at full fault!

1. No overclocking is promised. It would be nonsensical to think so when running any electrical circuit out of spec. Have you seen any other reports on the Impact where the user states those kits do not work at Optimised Defaults (No DOCP)?

2. Your initial post here states that you were able to find stability by adjusting the VSOC voltage. Does this apply to both DOCP and Optimised Defaults? You've gone in multiple directions since posting including as far as to say the system is now working after tuning the fabric, please specify if this was at Optimised Defaults, DOCP or both.

3. Neither of those kits appears to be on the motherboard QVL. Are those the correct PN? F4-3600C16Q-32GTZN, F4-3600C16D-16GVK? These details are important.

2. This is actually funny thing. I'm unable to run Optimized Default settings [Auto], at all. Also, I'm unable to "downclock" the memory, at all. I can't go to 3200 MHz and 1600 MHz Infinity Fabric clock. I need to have 3600 MHz on mem. and 1800 MHz fClock 🤷

Funny thing is, that both kits work really great with ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING. Which is interesting, since B550 < X570, AFAiK, though, B550 is a lot newer than X570 so that's that might be one of multiple reasons why B550 is handling mem-kits better.

Anyway, QVL from the side of G.Skill, since G.Skill testing is rigorous and they also make Asus only memory kits, I believe it counts...
