Hello.
I've upgrade a friends system and failed hard.
His systemspecs:
He wanted a new GPU (4070 Super) so we upgraded his PSU from 600w to 850w, bought this GPU and installed it. No risercard in use.
The system reacts super slow if I set Gen4 or auto in BIOS, means:
On boot: white LED is on for at least some minutes, went of and BIOS is booting. Even inside Bios everything is super slow(line by line graphics!) even the mouse is stuttering. No way of using an OS in that state.
I figured: if I set PCIe to Gen 4 or Auto the system is ultra slow. If I set Gen3 everything works fine (fast boot; white LED shows for 2-3 seconds; fast bios, fast OS) but this isnt intended to downgrade the pcie connection.
Even on 8/8 the system runs unstable. Sometimes it boots, sometimes not.
This is pretty annoying. I've already read tons of threads (reddit, here, www) and I think, this can't be the final solution. Asus Support seem to say: "buy a new motherboard" but this couldn't be real for me. If that is the case, ASUS will die for me as a premium manufactor.
Is there anything I could try or any other suggestions?
@asushow about to support your gamers?
Im happy to read about any new idea.
Thank you in advance - best regards

1) what kind of graphics card was installed before?
2) Asus is not to blame for this problem, as the cause has not yet been found, except that the system does not seem to boot quickly with the new GPU and PCIe 4.0.
3) the new GPU uses a 12vhpwr, does the new power supply also have this connection or was the included adapter used here?
4) if the PC boots with PCIe4.0, how is the GPU connection displayed in GPU_Z)
5) what kind of power supply is installed now exactly?
6) are one or more NVME SSDs installed) (M2_1 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 and M2_2 only PCIe 3.0 x4 according to the manual)
-> check everything to make sure it is firmly and correctly seated, including the GPU
reset the UEFI to the default values.
To immediately conclude that the motherboard is faulty is a bit exaggerated in my opinion.

Hello inge70,
thank you for answering on my thread 🙂
1) what kind of graphics card was installed before?
> GTX 1650 afaik (will ask my friend)
> 3060ti
2) Asus is not to blame for this problem, as the cause has not yet been found, except that the system does not seem to boot quickly with the new GPU and PCIe 4.0.
> Does other manufactor have the same problems? I havnt read any at all. If the cause hasnt been found, why do the advertise this?
3) the new GPU uses a 12vhpwr, does the new power supply also have this connection or was the included adapter used here?
> tried both. From PSU OR from GPU, nothing changes.
4) if the PC boots with PCIe4.0, how is the GPU connection displayed in GPU_Z)
> It doesnt. It took years to start an OS.
5) what kind of power supply is installed now exactly?
> Corsair SF850L, 850w, new, works well on other systems with 4000 RTX
6) are one or more NVME SSDs installed) (M2_1 supports PCIe 4.0 x4 and M2_2 only PCIe 3.0 x4 according to the manual)
> only one on the slot (nearest to CPU) with Gen4 support. I've tried to set nvme on Gen3 and GPU on Gen4 but nothing changed. My guess was: not enough Gen4 lanes buuuut, it should have enough (at least for one Gen4 nvme and gen4 GPU)
-> check everything to make sure it is firmly and correctly seated, including the GPU
> Ive checked everything many times. Since Gen3 is working well, I would exclude this.
-> reset the UEFI to the default values.
> Sure, after any Biosupdate I do ALWAYS an reset/clear.
-> To immediately conclude that the motherboard is faulty is a bit exaggerated in my opinion.
> Well, the GPU work in other boards (x670e) w/o problems on gen4. It must be the board since its 100% Gen4/Auto related. And we both know, the 5600x is able to run this smoothly.
I think, I can't recommend Asus stuff anymore. So sad tbh, since I liked them for decades.
Thank you for your time, inge 🙂
Regards
Edit: and to be honest, many users with that board have this problem with RTX 40xx FOR YEARS! .. so .. we all have a wrong seated GPU or an defective CPU, you want to say? (I appreciate your help, even if its sounds a bit rude from my side but Im really annoyed about this 😞 - nothing personally!)
But youre right, it was my bad, not to read about this Board with an RTX 40xx and its problems with it. But I never had to do this in the past.
This is a massive problem:

very slowly..
1) I am not advertising for Asus or anyone else (although I prioritize Asus and like to use)
2) my list would be my approach to narrowing down the error
3) The motherboard should have enough PCIe 4.0 lanes to supply NVME and GPU accordingly
4) check whether the power connections on the GPU and power supply are properly engaged (nvidia has pointed out here that there must be an audible click), because in the current revision of the GPU power connection, the 4 Sens pins are set a little further back and the GPU only receives proper power when the plugs are fully engaged.
If that also fails, I would also suspect the motherboard and the PCIe slot as the source of the error.
But just because some users, as they write, have problems with this motherboard, you don't have to badmouth the entire manufacturer.
The fact is, such problems can occur with all manufacturers. The only question is whether those affected then post about it in various forums.
But ultimately it's up to your friend to decide whether to buy a motherboard from another manufacturer. Every user has a choice.

Thank you Inge! (Kudos to you) - in my deleted post was an information: "GPU works on other boards (Tested 2 with Gen4) properly.
yea, since my answers are deleted here, im finally done with Asus.
Its a obvious problem on the Asus's End but user complaints will be deleted. F_U_C_K you asus.
I've screenshotted this and will release this on reddit. Don't buy asus.

i dont know what version that nvme is but you have to set every thing the same ...if you got a gen 3 nvme drive and its in the nvme slot on the motherboard that uses the pcie lanes ....everything in the pcie slots needs to be also set at gen 3 .....my system had a rough time with this also ....got a gen 4 card had gen 3 nvme's not a fun time ...got new gen 4 nvme drives ...now even the chipset is set to gen 4 as is everything it all runs fine ....just a thought man .....hope it helps
