Asus Strix X470-F Gaming owners thread

Hello guys, I am starting this thread for all Stix X470-F owners to discuss their overclock settings, issues etc. So that everyone get help quickly in a organised way. Installed my old 1600x in this mobo with 4011 bios and flareX 3200 with default docp and it works just fine without any issues so far. One thing to mention The board pushes 1.15v soc default docp profile. Is it normal seems a bit high for me as I have upgraded from B350-F gaming.
However a small issue I believe, the asus lighting control is not behaving normal. I mean just after login to windows it is taking a bit time to start (5min) before that if I try to on Lighting Control by clicking it, program crash window appears after few seconds. But when it starts on it's own then I can open asus lighting control. Anyone experiencing similar issue???
Also tried to use older version.

What chipset is everyone using for 5809? AMD's latest is still 2.10.13.408 dated 10/19/2020 while ASUS now lists 2.09.28.509 dated 12/04.2020 with 20201117R in zip file name.

Further inspection shows the October chipset from AMD site has newer 1.0.0.81 PCI Device Driver while ASUS' version is 1.0.0.80. Ryzen Power Plan version in ASUS driver is 6.0.0.7, I don't know what it is for latest AMD driver. Security PSP, GPIO, GPIO for Promotory and SMBus drivers are same between both latest available AMD and ASUS chipset drivers. When I say latest driver for AMD and ASUS I mean the latest available for download from each manufacturer.

I will stick with 2.10.13.408 and may roll dice with 5809 with my 2700X. Happy with this config until AM4 EOL.

I'm still using whatever the latest is directly from AMD's X470 chipset download site.

Guess it's "amd_chipset_software_2.10.13.408.exe". That's the last one I have installed on my PC.

Looks like they released "5809" today, boys! Officially out of "BETA" status! Aww yeah!

I'll try it this weekend on my 2700X build and post results.

Awesome let us know how it goes I want to see how these new BIOS work with that CPU!

Also, do any of these new BIOS increase RAM capacity of the board or are we still limited to 64 GB RAM (16*4)?

New Non-Beta bios is for me on 3600X

Alright boys - I installed 5809 on my 2700X build.

Attached are my Cinebench and AIDA64 results, as well as CPUZ.

Let me know if anyone has any questions. Feels about as stable as the past BIOS updates. That said (maybe my mind is playing tricks on me), it does feel like the system is more "snappier". Could be a placebo. I don't have metrics from the last 5406 BIOS to tell if there's any meaningful differences.

Cheers.

Question how much of a difference is there in speeds between 2700X to 3950X to 5950X. Two generations ahead should mean 20% improvement?

Also what is the best amount of RAM to use on this board even with the latest BIOS and chipset driver and a 5xxx processor? Is it still limited to 64 GB and 3200 speed?

Hi guys,

Flashed from 5603 to 5809 on my mobo paired with 3950x -> So far so good !

This new bios is full of new settings like the "PBO Fmax Enhancer" (see here for more details).
Boost is around 125Mhz better now compared to previous bios when activating this new setting.
For example with Cinebench R20 :
>all core frequency went from 4050 to 4175Mhz
>one core frequency went from 4500 to 4625Mhz.

I now also see peak frequency never seen before :
87139

My settings :
PBO Fmax Enhancer : enable
Scalar : x1
Boost overdrive: +75Mhz
All CPU voltages on auto

edit : these are my last testing on 3950x... 5950x is arriving soon !

Wow are you on air cooling with the 3950x and will you be on air cooling with the 5950x and if so which one?

Nope. On AIO watercooling with a Cooler Master ML360R. It will be the same for 5950x.

Guys what version of audio drivers you use? It's seems Version 6.0.1.8666 is crazy bugged. Sometimes just no sound from headphones, only power-off, and power-on helps sometimes. Other that's was on website some time ago(20200826R) was without this troubles, but Realtek Audio Console doesn't work.
