I've just changed the CMOS battery - it lasted 4 years. I followed the guide on the forum here as there was nothing in the manual about it.
What were you thinking ASUS??
It is quite the most stupidest design for a CMOS battery location requiring dismantling the complete machine. Why wasn't a battery housing built in to the top part of the VRM housing??? There is sufficient space for it. Then a simple matter of taking off the top VRM cover with fan vent, lifting out battery and popping in new one.
And then the factory battery is spot welded in - I'm sorry ASUS, I just don't have a machine at home that can do that with the replacement.
2 hours wasted getting at it and rebuilding.
