Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO (Wi-Fi) x570 won't POST Q-Code "8d" - intermittent

Hi Guys

My new system intermittently turns on, though does not POST. Q-Code: 8d, Q-LED: DRAM (yellow) - according to manual. Occurs every 1-2 out of 5 boot attempts. Issue is usually overcome by turning system off and on again.

Changed Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3200 CL16 memory for equivalent Kingston HyperX Predator RGB (HX432C16PB3A/8), the latter which is listed as officially supported memory according to QVL online.

I have seen several reports online from other affected users with the same issue > https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/cgmlmw/qcode_8d/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/cgmrhq/anyone_have_issue_with_the_new_x570_crosshair/?ref=rea....

Does anyone know if there is an underlying issue (perhaps BIOS)? Thank you in advance.

Regards,
CTV

Hey,

Can you try to change the PSU option from Auto to "Typical current idle"

This solution appears on Gigabyte forum.

I started facing 8d qcode about 2 weaks ago. Bios 3204 and 3302 (C8H) seems to be my problem.
I never had this issue before bios 3204
I have almost every bios set in auto, except RAM (DOCP Standard - 3600mhz).
My RAM kit is 32GB (4X HYPERX PREDATOR RGB 8GB 3600MHZ DDR4 CL17 - HX436C17PB3A/8).
I've tested my sistem using RAM at 2400MHZ, and it appear be ok, without 8d qcode. When i go back to docp, the problem happens again.
My processor is 3900X.
I would appreciate any sugestion.

I've registered to this forum just to present my solution to this ongoing issue.

My System is composed of:
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X570-E, latest bios, which is 1005
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x + Cooler Noctua NH-D15
RAM: Two sticks of 16GB G-Skill Trident-Z 3600 Mhz CL17, running in BIOS as XMP Profile 3600. All auto
GPU: Asus ROG Srix 1080 Ti
PSU: Seasonic 860W Platinum

What I've tried and didn't work:
- Lowering RAM frequency (this worked to a certain extent as in the errors were less frequent)
- Getting SOC voltage higher (this made no change)

What did eventually work:
- LOWERING SOC VOLTAGE A BIT.
I've just lowered bit by bit until I got to 1.07 or so and the error was gone for what I was able to confirm by rebooting the system for tens of times.
Then I've just lowered again to be on the safe side to 1.06250 V (see attached screenshot)

It has been days without the error. I've got FCLK and RAM running 1:1 at 1800 Mhz.

ASUS NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS AS THIS MIGHT JUST BE SOME WRONG OFFSET SOMEWHERE WHICH SETS THE REAL SOC VOLTAGE TOO HIGH!
THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR!

This fix seems to be working for me so far. I tried going up to 1.06875 and I get the 8d error once in every 50 or so boots. 1.0625 has pretty much cleared the error up so i'll keep it at that for the time being. I hope ASUS can fix this...it's annoying that this change has to be made for the board to boot consistently.

Out of curiosity...will this change affect the performance of the system?

Welp...8d code came back. I've tried every fix out there and it still show up. Thought the 1302 BIOS fixed it but it didn't. RAM is fine and has cleared multiple passes of memtest86 with no errors.

My question now is this...is anyone running this board that hasn't had the 8d code? If so, what RAM are you using?

try finding this setting in the bios-
'DRAM Current Capability' and change to [120%] and see if your '8d' issue is fixed.

Current running timings of 16-15-15-30 CR1 @ 3800 for just over a week now https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/25484666
also run 14-15-14-28 CR1 @ 3600 for ages https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/21715639
Tested and run from 3200 to 4600 speeds with various timings. Only '8d' errors have been while finding best settings at a given speed, they typically mean (for me) getting close to 100% right but not there yet.

hello to all, even error 0b i have RYZEN 3900X asus rog strix ex 570 with RAM FOUR BENCHES patriot 3733 viper stell 8 gb i configured them with fast setting of the dream calculator version 1.7 all the tests mem test integrated in the calculator are ok all the tests with memtest 86 ok i tried to change the cad bus impedance to value 25 20 25 25 and everything seems smooth dram voltage 1.35 soc voltage auto vddg ccd voltage auto vddg iod auto cldo vddp voltage auto everything goes. but then to the reset code 0b!
then carried cad bus adrrcmddrv to 25 and then the cad all to ohm = 15 and launched first 95 for 5 minutes then stop then restart eee ........... opss code 0b i don't know more than to do.

@3733 using FAST settings
14-16-14-28 CR1 (and all the sub timings)
Cad bus block Ohm's 40-20-20-24
Dram voltage 1.45
SoC voltage 1.1

@3733 using SAFE settings
16-17-16-32 CR1 (and all the sub timings)
Cad bus block Ohm's 24-20-20-24
Dram voltage 1.4
SOC voltage 1.1

Not sure why your settings at 3733 range on Ryzen DRAM Calculator 1.7 are so different ?

So yesterday cas bus I was wrong writing:
I have decided despite having patriot 3733 to keep me at the 3600 configuration so as not to push too much fclk and stay with a good 1: 1 margin under my fast configuration in yellow it seems to go and mem test does not give any errors after then I launched prime 95 test .. about 7 8 minutes I have it stopped on purpose and I immediately fired a warm restart and bummmmmm 9d!
Look at the photo

@pecche

Watch this video, think it will help you out a lot.

I have 4 banks my values are different perhaps for this and also me as well as using dream calculator and in any case the problem at random startup remains 0d!
