Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO (Wi-Fi) x570 won't POST Q-Code "8d" - intermittent

Hi Guys

My new system intermittently turns on, though does not POST. Q-Code: 8d, Q-LED: DRAM (yellow) - according to manual. Occurs every 1-2 out of 5 boot attempts. Issue is usually overcome by turning system off and on again.

Changed Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3200 CL16 memory for equivalent Kingston HyperX Predator RGB (HX432C16PB3A/8), the latter which is listed as officially supported memory according to QVL online.

So no more 8D code so far (with stock SOC voltage) but I've got a new problem now. The computer restarts on sleep.
Got the latest chipset drivers installed, latest windows 10 updates.. DAMN IT.

I'm still getting code 8d on reboot or wake up from sleep. Seems to happen 9/10 times. On the prior BIOS 0803, I was getting code 8d even with the SOC under voltage applied.

My System is composed of:
Motherboard: Asus Crosshair VIII Hero WiFi, 1001 UEFI / 1003 ABBA AGESA
CPU: Ryzen 9 3900x + Cooler Noctua NH-D15
RAM: Four sticks of 8GB G-Skill Royal 3600 Mhz CL16,,,36, running in BIOS as XMP Profile 3600. All auto
GPU: PowerColor 5700 XT Red Devil
PSU: Antec / Seasonic 850W Gold (Literally)

I had fewer 8ds under the previous UEFI. *With current UEFI, I can run Prime95, Cinebench R20, SuperPI, CPU Z tests all I want without problem. *But when I wake from sleep, I almost always get an 8d. *Sleep is set either S3 or S4; it makes no difference.

SoC voltage is set to all values from 1.1 to 1.5 inclusive.*
PLL voltage is set to values from 1.8 to 1.9 inclusive.

Any ideas?

Side note: *Twice the UEFI firmware has (I think?) set the PLL voltage to 1.5v. *The computer will then warm reboot during aforementioned benchmarks.

Exact same issue here... 128GB G Skill 3600 (32gb x 4 DIMM). Ryzen 3900x 12 core on a x570 e strix gaming board.

So yeah, a bit frustrated with this. It's so intermittant it may have been happening with older bios and I didn't notice. I've emailed G Skill tech support and also Asus, will report back.

UPDATE -

I read increasing the RAM voltage could stop this issue from occuring...but got worried about increasing the voltage, I read lowering it could work in another forum. I did one thing - bios and changed VDDCR SOC Voltage to 1.06250. Restarted 25 times and cold booted 5. Not seen the issue (normally would experience it at least once in that time but more likely 2-3 times.) Will report back if I see it again but 30 times sounding good so far.

i bought a new PC about a year ago now. I have this motherboard. Luckily for me (i say that very losely), haven't had any major issues with the mobo. But, just wanted to say, for a motherboard that costs the price it sold at. Why are many people having issues with the mobo. I mean, the mobo should be working fine. I understand that it's not for many people and myself am using a 4 RAM stick setup so im just glad my PC is working ok.
I running the 1302 bios i think as im too worried to try any later bios drivers. With what i've been reading through the months on people trying the bios updates and for their PC not to boot well.
I just wanted to say, i never thought that this mobo would have issues like i've been reading when i purchased this originally. I mean, this is suppose to be a top notch mobo right? What i see about the mobo updates to. I'm just playing safe and sticking to 1302 which i recall is one of the more reliable ones where no one had any major issue with. I realise im maybe 6-8 bios behind now but i just keep reading bad stories with ppl and their experiences with the bios updates.

Hey i used to think a bit like you. Remember every board is the same, check any forum. Especially when you are using ultra fast ram and speedy processors that are new. Its not like an xbox. The system doesnt know your setup, voltages, hardware. It can all need a tweak to get it stable. This is a good board.

Do you think lamboughini's dont have issues? Stuff that is out there usually does.

So asus replied when I submitted a service ticket on the 8D code issue. Initially they said they dont think 8d exists! I replied and linked this thread. See email below. How is a system stable when it fails to boot intermittently? I have told them I lowered the SOC voltage to see what they say.

D8 is invalid password, probably refers to BIOS password but under normal boot it shouldn't ask you for such.


If the system is stable then ignore it if it only happens on cold boot and preferably do not update BIOS when the system is stable.

So ASUS replied saying a SOC voltage of 1.06250 is safe and if that is stopping the issue job is complete. Up to about 40 boots now and not seen the issue once, normally it would have reared it's head 3-4 times by now.

I started facing 8d qcode about 2 weaks ago. Bios 3204 and 3302 (C8H) seems to be my problem.
I never had this issue before bios 3204
I have almost every bios set in auto, except RAM (DOCP Standard - 3600mhz).
My RAM kit is 32GB (4X HYPERX PREDATOR RGB 8GB 3600MHZ DDR4 CL17 - HX436C17PB3A/8).
I've tested my sistem using RAM at 2400MHZ, and it appear be ok, without 8d qcode. When i go back to docp, the problem happens again.
My processor is 3900X.
I would appreciate any sugestion.
