Ryujin III 240 LCD Slow Gifs

I have a Ryujin III 240 and Gifs are slower on the LCD than in AC. Does anyone else have this problem?
I spoke with tech support and they it is a defective device with an option to perform extensive troubleshooting with another department.

Any way, I am concerned that is the replacement also has slow Gifs then i'll be stuck with tech support's extensive troubleshooting tasks.

Hopefully, someone has had this issue and understands why it happens.

I agree that this unit is defective because the brightness adjust doesnt work either.

Still, i am curious if any one else has had similar gif problems.. Also, how do people add videos as an animation ? the AC only accepts gof files.

thanks

There are many free online sources to turn videos into gifs. Just make sure your video is not too long, I would say <7 seconds, otherwise it would take very long to convert, and it would be too large a file to put onto your LCD. Just search "video to gif". But be wary, output quality varies between different websites.

I have noticed the slow gif issue with mine too... I even tried speeding up the gif thinking maybe it would slow it down to what the normal speed should be but no. The Default pre-loaded Gifs seem to be fine though. I'd rather not go through an RMA or anything like that if possible and if that's the only issue I'm having then it's whatever, I'll probably ignore it, but it's still frustrating. I searched high and low as best I could for other people complaining about the issue but this is the only mention of slowed GIFs on the Ryujin iii that I can find.

I have the 360 ARGB version btw

i didn't want to deal with an RMA ether. So I returned it to amazon as defective with a note saying Asus declared it as defective. Amazon sent a new replacement.

The replacement was unliked by the current AC installation. So I used the AC uninstaller tool (not the uninstall option) to clear everything out. After installing a fresh copy, AC worked fine. Though, the same gif files played slow.

I found a gif file from the internet that played at normal speed. It is so weird. So, i decided to edit gifs to adjust their speed. Then GIFs became more mysterious to me.

Easy GIF Animator by Blumentals Solutions SIA at easygifanimator.net also plays the same gif slow in its preview tab. Interestingly, a gif that plays fast on AC also plays fast in Easy GIF Animator's preview tab. However, windows media player and photos play the same GIF at normal speed.

The Easy GIF Animation software allows 20 trial uses. I do not want to pay $30 for GIF animation software. Especially when I was unable to make the GIF play faster by changing its delay in the  trial version.

Based on your reply and my experience with two units, I must conclude that the Animated GIF format is at fault. There may be different GIF version criteria causing this inconsistency.  When GIF animation software and three Ryujin III units play the same GIFs at identical speeds, the Ryujin III units are not defective. The units and trial software may adhere to the same GIF version criteria.

Thanks for describing your experience with animated GIFs in you Ryujin III device.

     Kind Regards,

I played around a bit with it this morning and found something out. I found a GIF I liked and followed the source to a youtube animation. I downloaded a high quality MP4 of the video and used an app to properly edit and convert the image to a high quality GIF thinking maybe the random GIFs I was "right clicking, save as" were just poor quality or something.

My first test was horrid... I used a 1080p video and with the settings I used or something when converting, even the playback in the default pictures app heavily slowed down. So I tried again. My second run went much better. a lot smother animation and still a 1080p GIF. Ryujin did the same slowdown thing. Tried a third time, even better/smoother animation and still Ryujin didn't like it.

Last thing I tried is taking that third high quality GIF I made and downsized it to approximately the resolution of the Ryujin screen (320x240 or 4:3) while keeping the original aspect ratio of the GIF (16:9) cause the software crops the image anyways. still same thing happened.

I did notice that maybe the slow down happens during specific sections of the GIF sometimes. I'm 100% sure however it's leading me to perhaps believe it's an issue handling the rendering of the GIF like there isn't enough processing power on the device or something so it's lagging so to speak.

idk, just my quick and dirty findings when screwing around with it

Curious about your suggestion of possessing power for rendering GIFs, i checked Wikipedia because it has basic info about lots of stuff. I found this detail that can explain why some software and AC may play a GIF differently. For instance, rendering issues may occur with a multi-layered and tiled animated GIF with multiple color pallets. The player would have to sort the layers, tiles, and color palates for each frame. While this detail (below) does not explain everything, it can provide some perspective on the potential complexity of a GIF animation. Additionally, Gif was never intended for animation. When PNG was introduced, the GIF format was established as a standard for web browsers. Hence, GIF remained dominant and additions to the file format provided animation capabilities.

Detail from Wikipedia:

"GIF image can include multiple image blocks, each of which can have its own 256-color palette, and the blocks can be tiled to create a complete image. Alternatively, the GIF89a specification introduced the idea of a "transparent" color where each image block can include its own palette of 255 visible colors plus one transparent color. A complete image can be created by layering image blocks with the visible portion of each layer showing through the transparent portions of the layers above."
