ROG Ryujin 360 vs i9-9900K temps

FlanK3r
Level 13
There is part with i9-9900K and ROG Ryujin 360. On paper, TDP of 9900K is 95W, but is far far away from reallity. CPU power package is in practice around the 160W (BIOS on auto+XMP), This huge numbers are not often to see, but sometimes u need really test your stability properly . For Intel CPUs are best stress still PRIME95. I used version without AVX stress test - in BIOS I have negative offset 2 bins. U can tests classic blend test with random stress test of CPU/RAM/IMC or manually FFT hardcore test up to 12K size.
PS: In my room was about 19C

I put ROG Ryujin from Threadripper baby to Maximus XI Gene and i9-9900K ES (not winner of sillicon lotery 😄 )

No conflict here..., Maximus XI Gene has DIMM slots close to CPU

I am interested for PRIME (test blend test and FFT small)

On stock settings I got several good numbers.
Temps are between 61 to 68C

With FFT 8K (and higher) you can see "real" power consumption of CPU HWInfo. As you can see there is it up to 168W on CPU power package. This is not really 95W CPU :-).

Conclusion 1: ROG Ryujin can cool down your 165W soldered CPU very well, temepratures are under 70 C.

And what about overclocking? We can expect the power package on CPU will be much higher. Before that, you have to do some BIOS steps. First, all power package limitation change from AUTO to maximus value. Also set the CPU core/cache current limit on max and in digital control settings of VRM set CPU Current capability to 140% or more.
My experience is set the Vcore upper limit on 1.35V for 24/7, but be sure for high temperatures in load. In Cinebench around 80-88C (depends on your room temperatures)! But better start begins with 1.22-1.25 vcore and thats your startpoint.
On my side, the CPU sample is not king of overlcocking. I tested maybe 20 Skylakes/Kabylakes/Coffee/Cofee refresh processors and this one is second worst in OC headroom :). I used really high 1.375V and LLC8 for "true" vcore Whyt true? Just look at this Asus video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x3A6V2kSiU

Max stable OC on my side on all cores was 4838 MHz

PRIME 95, FFT=8K and temps were between 89-94C

Software CPU power package doesnt work now, so I used classic power usage meter

370W for CPU load and others components in idle! Thats more than Threadripper 1950X or more than i9-7900X.

For fun I tried earlier FFT=12K test with 1.35V and 4900 MHz for short time (before I got BSOD after few minutes) Crazy temps 93-104 C 🙂
